Hey Robin,

I saw your hello in the other thread, one of the best threads that I've seen here in a long time ,while it lasted, and wanted to return your greetings. As you know you're one of my favorite posters and it always brightens my day to see you, as well as several others.

Oh, and femme, if you're about, I also admired your tribute to your former teacher/coach/mentor/role model. A very fine piece.

Oh, and I forgot to tell everybody goodby last night.

Hi Antiquary! Goodbye to you too! If you ever really do leave will you email me once in awhile? You know you're one of my favorites too, don't you? My email is right over there <<<<<< under my name.

That was a good thread and I am ashamed at my part in its demise.

Sometimes I just need to have a little fun and get caught up in the moment. I am very bad.

Hi rachel.

I promise that I'll keep in contact, Robin. I have had a couple of new email addresses since I talked with you last and I do very little email but you are definitely one of the exceptions. About the thread, I think that it had probably run its course. But it did have a little bit of everything like so many of the wonderful old past threads.

Hi Dan,

FWIW, I didn't think it had run its course, and it's a damn shame AW allows one or two bored people to decide it has, when others were still contributing to the thread.

In my opinion, that kind of derailing is disruptive, more so than the so-called combattive posts that people get moderated for, despite that often "combattive" parties at least stick to the topic.

The derailing of that thread seems fitting somehow. It made me feel nostalgic. All good threads used to end that way.

Goodbye.

Hey spaz!

Well, I'm seldom accused of being an optimistic, but...... I did think that the thread was unusual in having survived several derailment attempts which is a fate more fortunate than most serious subjects. And I think that the development of the thread as a whole illustrated, albeit unintentionally, your initially implied thesis. The only aspect that I noticed which wasn't more fully developed but somewhat fascinated me was the tendency, especially during times of national crisis or prolonged war efforts, to find a group to serve as a scapegoat. When I remember how Robertson and Falwell almost had a religious orgasm when the WTC attacks were known and homosexuals were perhaps the most vulnerable group on their enemies list, then I think that there may well be a renewed effort from the fanatical right to attack them.

Have fun...and I am so sorry if I derailed your goodby thread.

Goodby,

Helen

Oh, that's okay, Helen.
But if you observe very closely you will see that I actually derailed my own thread while accusing others of doing so. But now you've gone and undone that derailment so I guess that we're backing to our regular railing.

Goodbye and God Bless You.

Spaz: I was also thinking back to a thread you started two years ago, in October 1999.

Remember? There had been a fight and a troll appeared with a user name which mocked one of the posters. That incident disturbed you and after 2 or 3 days you started a thread. Your opening post was one of the best pieces of writing I've ever seen you post. I totally changed my opinion of you (let's just say that my perception of you before then had been that you were a very intolerant individual).

The thread deteriorated almost immediately (and you contributed to it) because one poster dared to express then what a number of people expressed on the thread that you just had locked tonight.

At least you were willing to listen now - you weren't willing to do so then. That's progress.

KatyD! You put some clothes on girl! Don't you know it's winter?

Spaz, I really am sorry that I helped to derail the thread. I don't agree that that kind of derailing is worse than combative posts. Besides, a thread that is good could easily have gotten back on track. The right people just hadn't shown up yet. I will try to not be a disruptive poster in your threads. I can't promise because like I said, I have been known to get caught up in a moment.

Antiquary, is this really goodbye or just goodbye? I must say I am getting confused! I am glad that you are here now to say goodbye and didn't just disappear like so many do.

Irene, You are so right! Many a good thread ended just that way! Those were the days! I recall KRS and Fashion [just to name a couple!] derailing many a thread in the "olden" days of AW. I remember a lot of threads going for 10 or more pages then. Lots of interesting topics and views. It was fun back then.

Aw, Hepburn, you know what I mean. Don't be coy. The right posters to get the thread back on track ~ not to derail it!

Hi Antiquary

How is Mrs. Antiquary? Recovered, I hope.

Your absence is always noticed. I thought perhaps you were on vacation.

Thank you for reading my tribute.

I obviously missed something last night, and I really have been trying to come in here later than usual.

Because I am very gullible ...you aren't really saying goodby are you?

Hi femme

Well, everyone else was saying goodbye so I thought it was a new board fad and at my age one can't afford to get too far behind without becoming irrelevant.

I am gone quite a bit off and on, but mainly I haven't been able to devise a strikingly original manifesto. Ken was supposed to help, but you how unreliable he is. Always off scouting for remote estates in the
wilds of Oregon.

Thanks for asking about Jean. She's almost recovered and can't beat me with her cast anymore so things are looking up.

This is the most unusual goodbye I've ever seen... How many times did Jean whack you on the head with that cast?

Oh, and goodbye.

Not paranoid anywhere else but here!
