Children sang, joyful villagers cheered, and opposition fighters smiled yesterday, as waves of US warplanes launched their heaviest bombardment to date on the front-line positions of the ruling Taliban near Afghanistan's border with Tajikistan.
The jet launched its attack on Taliban positions two miles away, then performed a victory roll as smoke billowed from the ground, bringing cheers from the crowds of supporters of the opposition Northern Alliance in Dashti-Qala, as another US warplane circled in. For the ethnic Tajik and Uzbek farmers here, victims of deadly Taliban air raids last year, this was payback time.
It's nice to know that not EVERYBODY over there hates us...

Good Morning Barry! I just saw read that on CNN, and must admit that it started my day off with a bigger smile than normal - what a boost to our military's moral!

I wonder how it came to be that we are engaged in fighting a civil war in Afganistan. Has the northern alliance made that a condition for their eventual turnover of Bin Laden? Doubt that.
Come to think...what terrorist act have the taliban committed against us? Oh, they didn't hand over bin laden? By what assumption was it decided that they could have?
