Text of the residential speech: http://www.usnewswire.com/topnews/temp/0114-128.html

--Though words seem inadequate for describing this "presidential message"
I shall try. Here are the major points of interest:
----1. This speech is stunning in its total lack of intelligent articulation -- this is
sixth grade text at best.
----2. The oily groveling for approval -- just count the thank-you's to everyone
within 100 feet of the podium. I wondered when he'd start sobbing and
demanding babies and old folks to kiss.
----3. It is so obvious that he is using this public appearance to start his spin
campaign re: the Enron debacle ("You know, my view about this is that the
role of government is not to try to create wealth. The role of government is to
create an environment in which people are willing to take risks, in which the
entrepreneur is willing to expand through capital investment. " I.E. Enron's
collapse is just proof how good the system is working!)
----4. The lack of competence in the White House staff never ceases to
amaze -- note the many typos throughout the press release.
----5. The ranting reference to "evil ones" -- he's beginning to sound like one of
the more paranoid of the paranoid schizophrenics who lead ultra-evangelic
hell and brimstone congregations.
----6. The call to Americans to be just as paranoid as he is, and to spy and
snitch on their neighbors: "We've got to remain on alert. You see something
unusual happening in your community, contact the local law enforcement.
We're on the look [huh?]. But the truth of the matter is, the best way to protect
America is find the enemy where they hide and get 'em." No-one seems to
remember that Hitler made the same call to the German people.
----7. The total lack of sincerity. He is playing to a Deep South audience,
probably hand-picked (no one with an IQ above 75 admitted) so their response
will readily jive with the engineered approval ratings touted by the press. The
press release even includes "Applause" in the text in all the right places.
----To summarize: This isn't a presidential speech. This is a cross between a
low-budget cable commercial spiel for Billy Bob's Discount Buick Bonanza
and a really bad speech by the "dumb kid" on Parent's Night at Joe McCarthy
Memorial Elementary School in Red Neck, Louisiana. YeeHaw!
---- • Compare these two pictures: The first one is of Bush during the
height of the stress of the undecided 2000
election. He developed a nasty
facial boil on his cheek and at the same time, a reddish flush appeared across
the bridge of his nose -- both common physiological symptoms of acute
stress.
----Now look at this photo, taken on 1/14/2002.
http://www.sunspot.net/news/nationworld/bal-dayinpics0114.gallery?coll=bal%2Dhome%2Dheadlines&index=2The supposed "scrape"
from
his "fall" looks suspiciously to me like the remains of a very nasty boil that was
forced to a head -- note the dark central core area. He also has a flush across
the bridge of his nose and, worse still, his eyes looked extremely glazed over.
----If I were a bettin' woman, I'd stake next week's paycheck on the odds that
this man is on a strong anti-anxiety drug -- and a hefty dose at that.
----In light of this, I must give the man some credit. In both situations -- the
2000 election and now (with the Enron scandal brewing on his horizon), he
was acutely aware of being highly dishonest and in danger of being caught. A
man who had NO conscience at all would not be distressed enough by this
awareness to erupt in boils or have major anxiety attacks. So maybe
somewhere in there is a decent human being, after all. One can only hope.

Is it possible that a speechwriter is responsible for this poorly written piece of political deception.

Surely, they are not letting him speak extemporaneously.

I have always believed that deep down inside Bush was a decent person. However, he chooses to kowtow to Daddy's Business and Buddies demands and does what they want, so I fault him for that. That at his age, he should be his own Man. If he was, he wouldn't have boils erupting on his face.

Of course, his supporters love him, especially in the press where he gets 400 times the press time that Clinton ever did (I don't mean coverage and discussion, I mean speeches and job-related activities). ON CNN and other channels, the reporters fairly >gush< with Joy at covering his speeches and make snippets encouraging everyone to love his as much as well. >>YUCK!<<

I guess that we are just the weird ones, those of us who see through the media hype and have some measure of real morality, unlike others who have theirs carefully crafted by the media ...
