Since the end of September, I've had a croupy sounding cough, hoarseness, and a constant need to clear my throat.

Then about every three weeks, I have terrible congestion, then it goes away. Its like the cold that never ends. All during this time I haven't run a temperature.

I've been to three P.A.'s (regular Dr. uses 6) every one prescribed different medication. I finally went to my endocrinologist who arranged for a chest X-Ray. He says I don't have:

TB
Cancer
Valley Fever or
Pneumonia

My mother said she heard on the news that a lot of people had this same thing. I haven't heard a word about it, and all my Dr's look at me funny when I tell them I've been sick for 4 months.

Any one else sick? long time?

A lot of people here in Seattle have been sick with a sinus thing that seems to last and last. I've managed to avoid it so far but most of my family still has it since before Christmas. Makes some of them feel really weak for weeks. Odd virus.

Here in Portland, Oregon, it is commmon to have the sort of sinus problems that rawbunzel mentioned. However, what you are describing is common here as well. It always seems to be a virus of some sort. The doctors here know what it is and treat it with a series of antibiotics. You get sick, you feel fine, then you get sick again, then you feel fine again. it's like it goes into hibernation for a while then comes back just as nasty with little letup. Like I said: it's common here.

However, since September, there had NEVER been a day when I felt fine. The congestion goes away, but the cough (which can be fits lasting minutes) and the hoarseness never goes away.

What antibiotics are these using? I've taken two rounds and the current one I'm using is a short word starting with a T. I'm supposed to renew it today for another 10 days. I *wasn't* going to do it, because we all know the dangers of using antibiotics when unnecessary. Now, maybe I will renew it.

I have had it for about three weeks. Horrible sounding cough. Now it is causing a horrible tickle in my throat that will wake me in the middle of the night and cause me to cough my fool head off. Living in Florida there seems to be no escaping sinus/allergy problems.

Its funny that you brought up the tickle in the throat. Just before I have coughing fits, it feels like I have a hair in my throat, or an ant crawling around. However, my only saving grace is that once I'm asleep, I rarely cough at night.

I got it too, and have thought it was bronchitis. It comes and goes. I haven't taken anything other than Tylenol Sinus, which works wonders.

It's a viral infection. It comes on strong like a bad flu, then it subsides for a while with moderate symptoms -- maybe even vanishing for a few days. Then the cycle repeats. It goes on and on for months, unending. That's the one I'm referring to.

I'm not a doctor, nor have I had the misfortune to have caught this nasty virus. Different antibiotics address different kinds of infections. Ask your doctor about a virus-related antibiotic.

Word of Wisdom, though: about two weeks after finishing a complete round of antibiotics, make sure that you replace the positive floura in your intestinal system. By that I mean, when you take a round of antibiotics, it kills off ALL bacteria in your body -- including helpful bacteria that has a symbiosis with us.

These helpful bacteria are usually found in the lining of the intestinal tract and help us to process our food and nutrients. Therefore, after the body is done putting out the fire of an infection, you have to reintroduce the bacteria into your system for good health. Without them, you can feel lethargic, sick, uncomfoartable, etc.

How you reintroduce them is simple: go purchase Yogurt fortified with Live Cultures. I eat one a day for several weeks after a round of antibiotics. I also eat moldy cheeses, such as roqufurt [sp.], breie, bleu cheese, etc. as well for good measure. Makes all the difference in the world.

Yep ~ everyone in my house ( Philadelphia Pa area )has had that virus that starts out like the flu with chills and fever and goes into a never ending nasal drip and cough with that horrible tickle !
Best thing for that tickle in throat is buy a bag of those Wherthers candy ??? spelling ?? Carry a few around in your pocket, they are small and work like a charm instead of cough med ~ kinda coats your throat and makes you stop coughing !
Our Dr put us on Zithromax antibiotic but that stuff is nasty big time !! Upsets your stomach, you live in the bathroom and coffee tastes and smells like poison. I will never ever take that stuff again

I am not a doctor but here is a good little medical tip for ya'll. Go to the grocery store to the cheese section and buy a half pound block of cheese with the ingredient "penicillium roqeforti", I think I spelled it correctly, you'll have to read the ingredient lists on the different cheeses. One type/brand that comes to mind is Danish Blue. Eat half of it on bread or crackers and the other half eat the next day. You will get a good hit of pennicillin with this cheese and you wont have to pay a doctor for a prescription to get it. If you have a really bad virus it may take 2 more doses. It has allways worked for me.

Penicillin is not effective against viruses.

Sinus problems may be caused by smelling a skunk. The suspicious disease is called Bushitis, with an inflamatory effect that attacks the body and mind and soul.

It is quickly spreading throughout the universe.

Currently, the US congress and senate is experiencing a syndrome of the Bushitis disease which causes, in addition to the already mentioned inflamation, a confusing type of paralysis.

Democratic members are especially sensitive to this symptom of the disease. Some even appear speechless.

"Penicillin is not effective against viruses."

True. But even so, that is what they prescribe here to get rid of this viral infection. I can't say why. Two best friens of mine have had it, my parents, a friend's parents, and many other related friends have had it. Each and every one of them eventually went to the doctor, who prescribed penicillin or other anti-biotic to clear up the viral infection. I guess you'd have to ask the doctor why that is. Next time I get a chance to find out, I'll post it right here for you all.

Booonilar I see your post about the virus problem as fairly right however antibiotics do not wipe out all intestinal flora, they only wipe out all flora that they are efective against. thus the terms for example gram positive or gram negative bacteria, in addition there are several natural substances that can negativly affect variuous bacteria and virus infections, (I have not touched on prion infectins here yet)
in Montana at white sulphur springs there is a group of hard working people called the chemical injury information network. track them down as they can usually refer to competant doctors with advanced testing methods

It's my opinion, auroranorth that no doctor and no drug can irradicate this awesome disease. As I said earlier, it's a syndrome like the gulf war syndrome.

Nobody knows from whence it came or how to irradicate it. The name of the syndrome is Bushitis, currently being studied by the General Accounting Office.

They are spending big bucks writing papers on this syndrome. A GAO group was recently spotted in France. It seems that there is evidence that vital information relating to this disease may be found in this country along with good wine and fabulous accomodations.

Stay cool and don't worry about your sinus problems. You will either survive or die.

Helen
