Has anyone had any experience bleaching acrylic yarn? I have some afghan pieces I knitted in the 70s and never put together. I hate some of the colors and think if I could just bleach the heck out of those pieces, I'd feel better about taking the trouble to put it all together.

Once I tried a piece of acrylic yarn in some bleach and water, nothing happened. Is it hopeless, or is there a yarn goddess at this site who knows how to do it?

I guess my alternative would be to try dying the pieces a darker color, but I don't think acrylic yarn would take dye very well.

Rit Dye makes a color remover. I don't know if it's bleach based or whether it will work on acrylic but it should be easy to find. Maybe a spinner who dyes her own wool would know.
