Hello Everyone,

I am posting this as a part of the fundraising effort at our local school. They are collecting donations for the General Mills Box tops for education as a fundraiser that is sponsored by our schools PTA that I am a member.

What we are collecting them for is funding for special education programs. With the budget short falls that are happening this year from the legislature, one of the areas that’s going to trimmed back if not completely cut is the special education for the slightly slower kids. I for one don’t want that to happen. So with your help, we can at least keep the program alive.

Anyway, one of the things my Daughter’s elementary school is doing to raise money is to save the "Box Tops for Education" logos from General Mills & Betty Crocker products. The General Mills Box Tops for Education are each worth 10 cents and are found on such General Mills products as: Cheerios, Lucky Charms, Total, Fruit by the Foot, Fruit Roll-ups, Fruit Gushers, Dunkaroos, Potato Buds, Suddenly Salad, Bisquick, Yoplait Yogurt, Betty Crocker Super moist cake mix, Frosting, Supreme brownies, Supreme dessert bars, Potato side dishes, Betty Crocker Magazine, Lloyd`s barbeque sauce meals in the buckets, Hamburger Helper, Chicken Helper, and Tuna Helper and many other General Mills items.

Our goal for the present school year is $1500. At our last PTA meeting, we tallied up the total so far and we have raised just over $400.00. That is a good start, but we need more. Thanks to all that have given and please help for those who are just reading this.

The logos do have an expiration date on them so please check them to make sure they are still current. So as you clip the logos from the various General Mills & Betty Crocker packages, please check to make sure the expiration date is far enough in advance that when I receive them from you they will still be valid.

By the way, I personally will be collecting them throughout the year and will add them to the PTA’s collection at every monthly meeting.

If anyone is interested in saving these for my kids or wishes to send them directly to the school, please send me an email at [email protected] and I can send you the address on which you can send them.

To see what the box tops look like, please see the following URL address.

My kids, the kids at the school and myself thank you all.

barparts,

You state,
"What we are collecting them for is funding for special education programs. With the budget short falls that are happening this year from the legislature, one of the areas that’s going to trimmed back if not completely cut is the special education for the slightly slower kids. I for one don’t want that to happen. So with your help, we can at least keep the program alive."

I wish you good luck with your efforts to raise money for this very worthy cause!

But isn't it unfortunate that our government failed these children? When they can spend billions of dollars every week on war, these children in special education programs should not be left behind.

We should be ashamed.

We used to run fund-raisers for an extra typewriter or to improve the school library. I once heard a school-funding proponent say "School funding will not be fair or adequate until the state and federal offices have to depend on bake sales and raffles for their goodies."

Thanks Helen,
As a PTA member and concerned parent, I hate to see any programs cut. I also under stand that there is only so much money in the kettle and when it is empty, then cuts will happen. Within PTA, we cannot actually pay for a teachers wages, but we can help fund programs. If this little bit helps our kids keep up with the others, than we have accomplished our goals. Any and all help for the kids will be appreciated.
Thanks,
bp

Your efforts to raise the money for this cause are commendable and I know that you will make a difference.

It's frustrating though to see tax breaks go to the wealthy while we are leaving these special education children behind. In comparison to the funds directed to the wealthy, the money needed by the school is paltry.

Well the year end for collecting the box tops is here. This year we fell slightly short of our goal, but still had very good results from all of you cyber friends. We are now starting collecting for next year so keep on collecting them for the kids.
Thanks to all that had donated and looking forward to many more in the future.
Thank you all.
