A Saint in the guise of the Devil? Or, the Devil himself enguaged in saintly activities?

In Court of Opinion, Traficant Endures

"YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Democratic Party he belongs to wants nothing to do with Rep. James A. Traficant Jr. Nor do the Republicans, even though he has often voted with them in recent years."Washington Post

Depending upon what newspaper you read, it gives a different look to this controversial figure. On the one hand, he wants to represent himself in court on corruption charges that, quite frankly, they are all guilty of. He is famed for his tirades in the House against perceived governmental outrages that sometimes are puncuated with crude language and mild profanity; usually they end with a a cry gleaned from Star trek: "Beam me up!"

What do you make of all of this?

TIME TO INVESTIGATE THE FBI

May 15, 2001

"What is the big surprise, Mr. Speaker, in the McVeigh case? The FBI has been hiding evidence for years. Think about it."

"If you really believe that two Libyan mules blew up Pan Am 103, you are on Prozac."

"If you really believe that the best FBI sharpshooter just happened to accidentally shoot Mrs. Weaver right between the eyes, you still believe in Mother Goose."

"Congress, if you believe the Waco jury heard the whole truth from the FBI, you still believe in the Tooth Fairy."

"And, Congress, if you still believe the propaganda about the assassination of JFK, by God, you still believe that Mae West is a virgin."

"Beam me up. It is time for an investigation into FBI hiding and concealing exculpatory evidence on criminal defendants."

PASS FLAT SALES TAX AND ABOLISH IRS

March 27, 2001

"Mr. Speaker, in 1998, Congress reformed the IRS and included two of my provisions. The first transferred the burden of proof from the taxpayer to the IRS; the second required judicial consent before the IRS could seize our property, and the results are now staggering. Property seizures dropped from 10,037 to 161 in the entire country."

"The IRS had a license to steal, and they were stealing 10,000 properties a year. And if that is not enough to tax our gallbladders, the IRS is now complaining the new law is too tough. Beam me up here. It is time to tell these crybaby IRS thieves that we are going to pass a 15 percent flat sales tax and abolish them altogether."

"I yield back what should be the next endangered species in the United States of America: The Internal Rectal Service."

THE BIG BITE
November 29, 2001
Mr. Speaker, as a former athlete, I thought I saw it all. Great celebrations after grand slams and Hail Marys. But this time it has gone too far.

News reports say after a game-winning goal at a soccer match in Spain, a player celebrated his teammate who scored by biting him on the genitals.

Beam me up.

Now I have heard of high fives, back slaps, butt slaps, but this takes the family jewels.

The team says the player is doing fine, but I suspect he will speak from here on in like a soprano. This is going a little too far. I yield back what has now become known as ``The Big Bite.''

One thing I've learned about Traficant, don't ever count him out. He represented himself before and won.

I think he would be re-elected from his jail cell if convicted.

I believe that he actually would be elected from there is it comes down to that. I admire his gutsy style and common-man approach to expressing himself. However, his blind spot where it comes to seperation of Church and State I find a bit bothersome. All in all, I'd much rather have this loose-cannon running things than Bush any day!

While debating the "Economic Security and Recovery Act.....

Rep. Kevin Brady (R-Tx) rose to proclaim "We cannot stand by idly and let a terrorist topple our economy as they toppled the World Trade Center." Obvious conclusion: We need to give $671 million to General Electric, $608 million to Texas Utilities, $600 million to Daimler Chrysler...

Even more spirited was the response of Rep. James Traficant (R-Oh) who answered Democratic critics: "Let it go with this class warfare business. It hurts America. This is an important bill, as important as any we have dealt with that deals with terrorism. We are defeating terrorism." Defeating Bin Laden with cash handouts of $572 million to Chevron Texaco, $371 million to United Airlines... I assume he's ready to surrender now.

LoL!!!

meanwhile the lives of our workers and soldiers mean nothing to these parasites the elderly get caught between trying to pay their taxes on their property and heating and eating then have to come up with a fortune as the medical profession practices an avarice only outdone by the poitician and their pimping bar association. All the while they pay lip service to patriotism, these scum raise a few million as a reward for bin laden when more money than that was exchanged in a few minutes each day in either of the two main buildings. Now they want millions to hand out the moola over this, they are now so sick they no longer know they are sick.

The only real response is for everybody to stop paying federal taxes all at once.

Thanks Helen for those Traficant quotes. Tee Hee Hee! I like a maverick and this one is as ornery as they come!
