I keep a radiation detector on my desk and a couple times a day turn it on with the audio off just the scale and light.
Turned it on a little while ago and at was blinking accasionally the normal background count. All of a sudden it ramped up to half scale and the light went crazy almost staying on continuous it was blinking so fast.
I immediatly wandered if it was something in the air so I pulled the window open beside my desk here and held the counter up to the opening. It made no difference and very quickly it tapered off to normal. The whole event lasted about 20 seconds and has not repeated. We are on the second floor with no direct air vents or anything to the basement so it could not be a release of radon.
What the heck could make a "pulse" release of radiation like that? the way it strted and stopped I don't think it was any contaimination in the air - it would take longer to ramp up and taper off if it were. so I have to figure it was gamma rays or hard x-rays.
Strange.

It was a routine scan. They are scanning all residential areas now to ensure the safety of the populace. It's for your own good.
