Hello
Not sure if this is the best place to post this or not but here goes.
I am thinking of getting DIRECTV DSL with the special promotion they are offering. It requires a year's contract and before I lock in - does anyone out there use it and if so what do you think. Love it - Hate it - Not worth it - Life saver?
Thanks

I'd like to hear, too. I have DirectTV entertainment programming, but have hesitated to sign up for high-speed access.
DSL always seems to be telephone lines. I *HATE* copper-wire telephone lines, due to the shitty quality of service junctions, ancient routers, primative switching equiptment, etc. If someone is getting it via sattelite, then I'd like to hear about it. That's what I want: a combined satellite entertainment & Internet package.

Direct TV DSL has not received high marks for their service. Earthlink is better.

I remember reading there is a large lawsuit against Earthlink in CA. They done a huge sales push to get DSL customers which was successful and failed to deliver. There was problems with speed, lack of customer service etc etc. They lost nearly all the new customers and resulted in a lawsuit.
I have no experience with either Earthlink nor Directv.

Earthlink is the only ISP (not DSL)I have ever had but I would not say I have been pleased with their service. And it does seem to get worst instead of better - and I don't even want to think about the CD they sent me for an upgrade which caused me WEEKS of exact work.
But as Borillar stated when you use the phone lines you are at their mercy. If the station that connects your phone lines is too far away then the speed isn't even much better either.
So no one has really tried it out there?
Thanks

a good person to ask would be one of their installers ask them if they are paid on the sale or on the install if they are paid on the slae the company has the money to see it thru, if they are paid on the install someone corporate is already reaching for a lifesaver. (from the Selectv files)

There is no installation with this deal. They ship the equipment and you just connect it yourself.
I already have DirectTV so this will just be an add on I guess.
Maybe that's why it is so cheap to start - no one will try it!!!

I've only been on DirectTV 4 days now, and I'm still trying to learn how to operate the remote. I haven't seen any commercials, what is the price?
Not my name on ebay.

I have had it for 4 months (TV) and still not sure about that remote - I don't think it has any limits.
You should get an offer in your monthly bill soon. I think it is $29.95 for 2 or 3 months and free equipment and shipping on the DSL. You must agree to a year's service or they will go back and bill you like $100.00 or something. That's why I am trying to check it out first.

The last time I had read a comparison, the overall cost of a sat. ISP was very high. It is much slower than cable or hard wired dsl, plus the usage cost varied depending when you used it, peak or off-peak.
Wired DSL or cable modems are not offered in your area????

I use cable and haven't had a problem in the approx 5 years I've had it.
I am a "beta" customer, one of the original 600 customers and still use the original old motorola Modem they gave me in 1997.
I was also fortunate enough to have a cable syatem that was "bi-directional", which supposedly is better suited for cable internet.
I haven't had a service outage in 2 years. Speed is great. Modem and install were free. I think most new PCs with Windows XP are plug-n-play for cable - the lap top I bought in January worked when plugged in.
I think cable is also cheaper than DSL- I pay $44.95 a month + $9.95 for 3 extra IP addresses.

I'll be sure to inquire about the peak time charge etc. Thanks - important to know.
Our locate cable company is in the middle of a big law suite for poor service - so I think I will pass on that for now.
My telephone repair man said the telephone DSL are only as good as the lines and our line were laid about the time the the telephone was invented-lol. Not really but our house was built in 1939 and sometimes when it rains I can't get online.
The after discount cost will be $49.95 which is about the same as our cable and telephone connections.
Maybe I'll post on ebay and see if anyone out there has ever use Directv DSL.
Thanks

We live in an old neighborhood with old lines. Earthlink DSL here is magnificent The fee is 49.95 which is about the same that I paid for an extra phone line and dial up service.
Earthlink checked my phone lines before the DSL was installed.
