There are a lot of people who just can't deal with any unpleasant reality except by denial.

Stushi brings up that a Indian/Pak war may expose us to some fall out. They might worry more that the fallout will hit their BIG ugly nasty neighbor China a lot worse. They just might DO something to ensure it won't happen again.

But we have more than the fallout to worry about. When nukes go off there is a real chance of a conflict spreading due to one missile off course or a program that is set to advise a launch for another power.

The damage that can be done is extensive. A high altitude nuke may damage satellites and AWACS making a blinded military launch 'em rather than loose 'em.

The reality of such a thing being PROBABLE was brought home to me today because an electronics component company that I had been asking about buying parts from for a weapon grade laser sent me an e-mail today bragging that they are offering civilian electronic components shielded for use in a nuclear battle environment. Obviously they feel there is a market for people who expect their devices to be subjected to such stress and wish them to survive. Enough people to make it worth selling such expensive parts.

Gravid:

Could you repeat that for the, er, compromised?

In general, yeah it would be ironic if likely which it's not. They'll have to get in line if they want any attention or learn from the Sindis and the Sihks(sp).

I was saying YES that is likely - so likely there are businesses spending big bucks to prepare for it. Fallout is just one problem. When a nuke goes off it "cooks" electronics for hundreds of miles.

You can make them to do it on purpose. Set one off a couple hunderd miles up and half the country can take their TV's -computers - and such and dump 'em in the trash. Also the ignition in your car and your cell phone -
zzzzzzot!! Junk!!

The defense community has known about this for years, everyone supposes that computers need electronics to function this is not correct. the computer you and I are using could function just as well if the internal chip was based on fluid dynamics. Our enemmies never hit us during the cold war because they knew we had redundant systems with multiple backups. what Bush and Putin should do is force the end of chemical biological and Nuclear war by other countries Now before any of the others get any stronger. CHINA
