Am I the only one who finds it disgusting that a Congressman or woman would get involved with an intern?

I'm tired of all of the postulating in the media about how these young people make themselves available to their bosses. Where is the outrage at an older person taking advantage of youth?

Just asking. See you all are still "bickering."

I'm surprised at you to question the morality of the people who make our laws! If you have no proper respect for their integrity the next thing you will be asking the same of the priests.

I get so tired of having morality in this country equated solely with sexual behavior. I believe that this attitude is changing and
sex in America is losing it's shock value. At one time, for example, Jimmy Carter, who admitted having sexual thoughts and lusting in his heart was considered as sinful by some. Nobody had to do anything to be immoral. That puritanical attitude is changing today.

While growing up, the number of older and relatively influencial men who propositioned me was substantial. High school teachers, college professors, bosses. even the kid's piano teacher all had lust on their minds.. Who has not had such experiences?

But unlike "some interns" that you mention, I chose not to be involved. Why do you place all of the blame on the older man.? Don't you believe that a young woman can think?

And have you ever considered the possibility that young people may be taking advantage of the older person?

Helen

Of course, I am not talking about Catholic priests who take advantage of children.

There are a lotr more areas of immorality than sexual ones but the sexual ones seem to be such a grand example of poor taste also.

Nobody seems to have any problem with financial predators and people who take advantage of the poor and uneducated with
check cashing rent to own schemes.

Of course the states riping their bit off with the lotto sets a poor example. The illegal street numbers are actually embarrassed to give odds that low. But government doesn't know shame.

Even if you do hit a million by the time you get through with taxes it is a joke.

It was my intent not to put the spotlight on just two well known interns but to evaluate the multitudes of interns in service to the federal and state level governments. Many are high school students.

Why should they have to go through being propositioned even if they are the ones sending signals. I remember when I was 18-23 and I didn't have the sense God gave a goose. I also remember being "felt out" (probably wrong wording) and feeling grossed out. You put 20 years on to the 20 year old and you are supposed to have much more sense.

Helen, I remember Jimmy making that statement I laughed and shook my head then. Here, we had all this economic disaster going on and he's talking about "lusting in his heart." You just made me laugh again.

I think the sexual behavior is is the tip of the iceberg when it comes to integrity. I think it fits into a pattern of lack of integrity in other places as Gravid stated.

I believe we do have Legislators who are trustworthy but the few throw all into a bad light. The reason being the lack of policing themselves through the committees which are supposed to do that.

Just my 2 cents.

Nycyn. I believe that in the total scheme of things, sexual integrity is the last concern that we should worry about.

Washington DC, like most cities is a dangerous place for a single girl to live...especially in the area in which Chandra was living. I would not consider letting my daughters live in the dupont circle area. The lovely park that they keep talking about is a dumping ground for bodies. People who know the DC area would not consider jogging through that area alone. Last year, there were 350 people missing in the city. Of course, Chandra was high profile because of her association with Condit so the media hops on that story.

Your remark...".Why should they have to go through being propositioned even if they are the ones sending signals" is not fair.
Being young and attractive is not as you infer, deliberately "sending signals." I suppose you might say that they would be better off ugly.

Integrity is another topic.. I can't say that George Bush has any integrity and yet we haven't heard that he is having an affair lately.

Helen,
You missed the intent of my statement. It has nothing to do with being attractive. It has to do with power. Say a girl or guy is selected to be an intern in Anywhere, USA. They get there and immediately find ways to be around the head honcho trying to get h/h attention. What I'm trying to say is that the head honcho should have enough sense and experience to stop it right away.

I'll probably get killed here but I don't think the publicized cases have been all that attractive. Nice looking all American types, though.

Hey, Hep. Thanks for the wave. It's been so long that I've forgotten how to do the smiley things.

edited to add that GW would have to answer to his mother if he had an affair and I don't think I'd want to do that.

And I'm saying that the intern should be able to control the head honcho. That's been my experience at least.

Ok, I was trying to talk on the phone and read at the same time..I see what you mean, now. You are thinking that the intern is after the head honcho. In that case, I agree with you that if the head honcho is not interested that he should be able to handle the situation with diplomacy.

Isn't it nice to see Hepburn

Isnt there a full moon tonight too? Oh boy oh boy...Im sure it could get interesting, lol.

So..how was everyones weekend so far? Hubby bought a brand new truck, so we have been toodling around in it since last night (we got it about 7pm..so much waiting and dickering...gawd I hate car shopping but hubby is in 7th heaven). Then, a few of the tenants got together and decided to barbque, and that was fun....then we went to #4 and watched movies they rented, up to almost 3am this morning. Then we went to the swap meet in the new wheels, and had breakfast afterwards. THen #11 needed shower doors put up since the new tenants moved in day before yesterday and #15 moved out yesterday morning and now I have to get THAT one ready. All in all....its been a busy but fun weekend so far

Yes, I noticed its getting argumentative in the ol back forty lately. Then again, thats what made it so unique from the get go. Only problem is, you need counter balance of fluff to go along with bickering. (Dont look at me..Im all fluffed out).

Hiya KD! Zil is happy at barrys, and Im happy that she is happy there.

The new truck is something else, alright. Its great, except for that beep beep beep/ding ding ding everytime its to be shifted. We had a choice of gold or silver, and I told hubby to take the silver, to match his hair, heh. I also told him to put I Be Jamin on the side door, like the webejamin that is on my car, but he said nope..if he was gonna put anything on there, it would be I BE IN DEBT! lol.
Hes been wanting a truck forever and I said "why dont you just go get the damn thing then? Sheesh. We are getting old bub, so DO IT" and he said "ok, lets go". So we went. And we did. And now he said he wants to take MY car and leave ME the truck because "I dont wanna mess with shifting..I need my coffee hand free". Uh huh. Its because he doesnt wanna hear the ding ding ding. He dont fool me none

Sorry Calamity..didnt mean to derail your thread. So..with that in mind, I agree with what you said I'm tired of all of the postulating in the media about how these young people make themselves available to their bosses.

I think we had this discussion once before..long time ago, right here in the RT. And I said the same thing then. This was when the lewinsky thing was going on, or right afterwards. Anyway, I said that they (the media) was going on and on and on about how awful it was of Clinton doing what he did and I think I said it takes two to tango and he was married and Lewinsky was adult and was considered adult by the law and society and him being married and she knowing his wife, MRS clinton and that not stopping her from dabbling in the cigar business and hanky panky under desks and whatnot, then not only was clinton wrong for doing what he did, so was she for allowing it to begin with. It was within HER power to say NO. She didnt.

"IMO sexiness is closer to God then cleanliness."

And neatness is next to niceness.

Seriously show me a guy who is running around on his wife and keeping a dizzy young thing and I will show you someone I won't do business with because he will be just as quick to screw me over.

Character shows in many areas, and carries over. Tried to tell one of my bosses who was so delighted that an employee was saving him big bucks lying to the phone company - "If he'll lie for you he will lie TO you." He never figured it out. He also could never understand why the guy never needed a raise, but was happy with it.
He was writting his own raises out the back door of the shop. He ended up going to a customer for work after saving them LOTS of money for a couple years.

Gravid:

One can be sexy and moral is my point. One doesn't have to be celibate to be moral. Yada yada.

Besides, I have no business making commentary on other peoples' intimate lives. Nobody but the participants know what went on in the bedroom (or Oval office). We don't know that the Mrs. went along with Bill's flings (say, even, for her own political career) or that she didn't have flings of her own. Maybe they had an *understanding.*

We don't know. Can't know. And I hold it is none of our business. I don't even find it interesting.

Now if we are talking about your spouse, or Helen's, etal, I'd find it interesting; maybe.
