Tonight on 60 minutes they had a segment on Kuwait and how their parliament is being taken over by fundamentalist Islamists.Really quite scary to see that whole region going that way. Of course that means they "dislike" our foriegn policy in the region. ****sign***

Auroranorth, that's about what my husband said. He said we should just tell them that we now own Kuwait,Saudi Arabia,Afghanistan, Iran and Iraq and if they have a problem with that then they'd better "buckle up their seat belts and get ready"!! LOL

LOL! REAMOND!

Hmm, now that would have been interesting to watch. It is very significant. Remember that it was the British who chopped of this rich, oil producing area from Iraq and created the Kingdom of Kuait and installed a puppet-King (same thing they did to create Jordan). Kuait is still controlled by both British (The Royal Family) and none other than, guess Who? Bush Oil! This ought to be fun to watch it all play out! Last time there was a threat to Bush Oil there, we ended up in the Gulf Conflict (War).

And, personally, I think that it's good to see those Kuaitiis going Fundie. I recall how the media showed back during the Gulf Conflict, where all the troops were assembeled under Desert Shield and were about to strike in Desert Storm and the Kuaiti Nationals were not there, but in nightclubs dancing and partying all night. Being interviewed, they weren't worried about the outcome (of course not - they were at a safe distance, say, Egypt). When asked How Come y9oung Kuaiti Men were not on the Front Lines ready to go defend their country, that's when the Rich Kuati men split from the nightclubs. I haven't forgotten that and for those Americans and other soldiers who were there at the time risking their lives for these careless Kuaitiis and saw that news broadcast, I doubt that they have forgotten either.

And then there's Sadam. You know, he's still sore that we screwed him over. Why can't he take a joke? It's not like he and we weren't the very Best of friends for many decades! Believe it or not, Sadam is actually a Moderate Muslim (yes, they exist! 85% or so of Muslims in the world are Moderates). How I bet that he's just iching to go kick Kuaitiis butt! Betcha if he does that, we'll have to go in there and stop him, won't we?

So, this is really gonna be interesting to see how this three-way Mexican standoff works out!

Thanks Bonilar I was going to say what you said, but I thought in some cases I might be casting pearls,...

It seems that what we have is a bunch of children who want our government to send our soldiers. to murder anyone who disagrees with what ever crap the media is ladeling out today. Could just turn the TV off.

The Russians had a mega agency to manage things they called it the KGB.

I knew I was in trouble when I toured the White house and the only books there had crayons with them.

Didn't we put out 1000's of oil fires in Kuwait? Maybe we should go back and uncap them before Hussein goes in to take over the same oil fields he set on fire.

On or about 9-11 someone from Kuwait said we had it coming (as if we deserved it.) I was shocked.

I think we should nuke the entire goddang region and put them out of their (and our) misery. Except for Turkeyi.

Poor women is right!

They interveiwed a young woman, very modern, working in a clothing store and she said the she and her mother had already decided that if the counrty went fundamentalist.... as in forcing women to cover ..they would leave.
Then they spoke to some women that were embracing the fundamentalist movement and they thought it was fine for only men to be able to vote and for women to have to cover. Even though this particular young woman was a med student she was willing to give up voting for her religion. This is a mindset I do not understand.

I have never understood why any woman would embrace any religion that was so obviously designed by men for men to keep women under control. Makes me sad. We have it here in this country too.
For some reason all the worlds religions seem to be swinging to the fundamental side. Scares me more than terrorists.

You are right about that, raw. There is a definite swing towards the far-right everywhere in the world. and when that happens, it means misery and sheer hell for humankind on earth until it begins to swing back the other way.

Remember that Fundamentalism is the Crack-Cocain of Religion and Literalism is its delivery system. We are only beginning to see the tip of the iceberg with this. The mass hysteria and mass murders of the early part of the previous century of rampant nationalism has been and is being replaced by Fundamentalism. Raw, any religion that does not require you to think is nothing more than a brainwashing cult and that is what this world is now infected with.

aurora, in the Islamic faith, homosexuality and pederastry is a violent revulsion for them. Muslims are not like Catholics in that they do not practice celibacy. In strict muslim societies, any sexual sin is not tolerated - including pedophillia, and in some countries, it is punishable by death to the offender. However that may be the case, the country of Turkey has long been known for it's making of sexual delicacies of young boys, which is why much of the Muslim world doesn't like Turkey or it's brand of Islam.

Bor- Please explain Mohamed's 9 year old "wife" and how it might apply to this "revulsion" against pederastry in the Islamic community.

Ahhh . . . you pick up an MOST interesting topic, REAMOND! Lessee . . .

OK, up until about 1985, the Age of Consent in the State of Kentucky was 10 years old! Back when I lived in Tennessee in 1976, the Age of Consent there was 12 years old at the time.

The Mountain tribes of Laos, called the Moung, have an odd way of getting a wife. The man chooses a 10 year old girl and then abducts her and makes sure that she is deflowered so that she can't go back home again. This cute custom caught the eye of the Child Protective Services in L.A., where many of the Moung had emmigrated at the end of the Viet-nam conflict. These men were not charged with Child Molestation or arrested, but rather, the community was brought into focus that this is "not done" in America. If it is still done today, it is done much more quietly.

The Latter Day Saints wee also known to have taken on some rather young wives in the early years, and possibly, even now for the ones that practice polygamy.

REAMOND, the type of pedophellia I mentioned, quite clearly is pederasty, not Age of Consent Brides of Ancient Cultures.
