Lloyd Grove writes in today's Washington Post:

"We never realized that that Rep. Bob Barr -- the Georgia Republican who so despised Bill Clinton that he demanded his impeachment before the Monica Lewinsky scandal -- was such a delicate hothouse flower. Well, it turns out that Barr was deeply hurt by all those slings and arrows during his 1998 ordeal as a Republican impeachment manager.

Barr was so wounded, in fact, that he has filed suit in a Washington federal court against the former president, Clinton loyalist James Carville and politically active pornographer Larry Flynt seeking compensatory damages "in excess of $30 million" for "loss of reputation and emotional distress" and "injury in his person and property" allegedly caused by these three -- who Barr claims conspired to "hinder [the plaintiff] in the lawful discharge of his duties."

When Barr's normally media-friendly lawyer, Judicial Watch president Larry Klayman, initially declined to comment on the lawsuit, we sensed that something highly unusual was afoot. The suit was filed very quietly back in March, but didn't come to light until yesterday, when Flynt issued a press release. Maybe Barr, who was mum yesterday, thought the publicity wouldn't help his tough primary race against Rep. John Linder, another Republican incumbent, in their freshly re-drawn congressional district.

Defendant Flynt, meanwhile, declared: "This time, Barr has kicked the wrong dog." Defendant Carville told us: "To call this suit 'frivolous' would be to elevate the status of 'frivolous.' " Clinton's attorney, David Kendall, said: "The claims have no legal merit and will be defended vigorously." In due course, the strangely reticent Klayman said: "I don't wish to comment on the substance of the case. However, it is serious, and the congressman is confident of prevailing."

Oh good grief.

You know, the other night I saw on that thingy at the bottom of the screen on CNN and one other the story brought back up about how trashed the Whitehouse was when Clinton left. The thing about the "w"s and everything. I thought that was already debunked? Why do you suppose they would bring that up again now?

David Kendall is still representing clinton? Last I'd heard clinton hadn't paid any of this attorney bills. Guess the large tab just keeps growing.

Larry Flint - This time he kicked the wrong dog? Boy's he's being to gracious in calling himself a dog.....much worse I'd say.

This case will be interesting.

Just what the article I posted from the Wall Street Journal mentioned.

One thing is said....incorrectly...people believe it...when the truth comes out...people have moved on...but remember it the wrong way.

I thought that was already debunked? The damages were just recently published this week. Just a mere $20,000.00.

Oh Heck ,LindaK,That's just about enough for one toilet seat!

The current administration did come out and say after the allegatons that the "w" thing was false and the rest was greatly overblown. Why now would they say it wasn't? I'd like to know too, what the truth is.

Linda's quote....
"One thing is said....incorrectly...people believe it...when the truth comes out...people have moved on...but remember it the wrong way."

You mean, someone tells a lie and it is believed. When the truth is revealed people persist in believing the lie?
That happens!

I think they were just trying to play down a 'small' problem. When leaked to the press I believe they just felt it wasn't that important...in the large picture.

I believe it was a DO(?) report. Department of whoever does the accounting payments.

My husband told me about the article. I seldom read the Style section except for the gallery reviews.

Bob Barr is a hoot - it's just unfortunate that the public pays him.

Indeed! By Larry Flynt's own discription of himself, he calls himself a Slime.

However, as Larry Flynt likes to point out which is very much worth thinking aboiut, is that if a "Scum" like himself can have his Constitutional Rights protected, how much safer are yours?

Think about it.

Ha ha! Virginia House Speaker Vance Wilkins resigned today. He'd become a liability to Republicans and their "family values".

Actually, no one should be surprised at that. When a Republican gets into hot water, the first reaction by their compatriots is cut him loose from the herd and sacrifice him to the predators. In a funny contrast are the Democrats, who when one of their own is under attack by predators, they tend to band together to face the attack as a herd to thwart the predator off.

I know which herd I'd prefer to be with!

Oh yeah, it must have slipped my mind, how all those Democrats were banding together to thwart off the attack of any predators that were all over Gary Condit

nearthesea- you know darn well that Condit is a bad example as there were criminal issues there. Borillar's point IMHO has more to do with political issues.

I apologize Stusi, I went overboard on the Condit thing, and off topic.

And its hot here, too hot.

I'll have to remember this 'Brotherhood of Democrats' when they are dealing with a politial crisis of one of their own.

nearthesea- the integrity of an apology is all too rare here. I consider myself a middle-of-the-road Dem but there are several issues where I found myself siding with Bush. One is the Arctic oil drilling proposal where I thought the ultra Liberals overreacted to possible pollution. Our independence from OPEC is IMHO much more important than any windfall to the Texas Oil mafia.

And there Stusi I can agree with you. I thought the oil drilling up North was a possible solution (albeit small, and temporary) and they did overreact way too much on the whole thing.

And agreeing on this, is a good thing
