An awful documentary.....Do you know how the cow, that brought you the steak on your table, was killed? Or chickens or any animal we use for consumption? What are we doing?? Did you know that most of the crops we grow go into feeding the animals we kill? I could go on but it's too gross.

I think before anyone eats another piece of meat, they should look into it further and maybe watch clips of inside these slaughterhouses. If you think what's going on is right, then please let me know what's right about any of this. It was the worse thing I've ever seen.

Read the book "FAST FOOD NATION" You will never touch another Fast Food Item again. You think those delicious hambugers are made from beef cattle raised on the plain....not always so. Beef cattle are generally raised for Supermarkets, and MickeyDee's want cheap burger. So where do you think old, worn-out milk cows go? Cheap burger, but you won't taste it. The flavor, texture and smell of most Fast food is manufactured in chemical plants in New Jersey. They can make dog crap taste and feel like the juiciest hamburger patties.

And if the hamburger contains killer E coli bacteria, it is still only voluntary for the manufacturer to recall. However, that idea is changing. Many states are passing laws.....MAKING IT ILLEGAL TO COMPLAIN!!!! So the hamburger could be killing people left and right, but why recall it? Nobody is allowed to complain!
Remember Oprah said she would never eat a hamburger again after she aired a report of the conditions. The Texas Cattlemen sued, and WON!!! However, most people agree these laws are unconstitutional, but meatpackers and cattle organization have alot of money and political clout and can run even the weathliest defendents into bankruptcy and into the ground.

Just think of where you would be if all that food was readily avalable in the supermarkert for you to pick up.

You would be on hand an knee with blisters up to your ear lobes from first melt of the snow till the late fall as well as canning to have vegatables for just a same part of the winter.

you would be out in the woods hunting just about any thing that moved year round to streach the flour and veggies you could manage to grow as lousy as the weather might be.

you too would soon be feeding cattle to make a food source easyer to come by all year.

My older brother is a Food Scientist. He works with Food Processors - the ones that do the canning and jarring and the stories he tells . . . >GURK!<

They do that because "it costs soooo much money!!" Of course, the death and misery left behind by NOT being allowed to stem the tide is easily overlooked; that is, if you are a Republican!

It would be really interesting if the next hunting season it was required to go naked with a spear.

Personally It's been years since I used a rifle to kill But I have not forgoten How good I was at it.

This Vegan thing is this voluntary for other family members ?

Me I love t bone steak 2.29 a lb at garys foods in wallace Michigan.

I love Lobster and crawdaddies and oysters,

I'll eat trout catfish and bluegill, but musky rules,

I love buffalo meat, and alligator and I know what plantain and wintergreen look like too,

I love fried rabbit and baked peafowl,

I enjoy being a predator....you have no idea what great food tastes like until you have had home made goats milk butter see hoegger dairy goat supply smyrna Ga.

you city folks might starve in a war me i'll feed those I can if it comes to that (no Lawyers)

Auroranorth, no dictators in this house.

Last night I served tilapia filets marinated in lemon pepper sauce on a bed of wehani rice with steamed asparagus and snow peas. Fresh from the garden salad. I ate marinated tofu instead of the fish. DH said it was better than a resturant meal.

snowy, I tried the Vegan approach and it was too difficult being the only Vegan in the house. The food shopping and the preparation time were extended beyond what any of us could put up with and I fanally went back to eating meats (although not oo much).

Guess what the most difficult meat is for people to give up?

Steaks? Hamburgers? It's bacon. (Non-scientific lesson for the day.)

Even if you could just cut out red meat as a start Borillar, then slowly wean yourself off altogether. It's only difficult if you think it is.

aurora, I'm not against anyone who's a 'meat maniac' such as yourself , I just think it's one area where we can really make a difference. If there's nothing wrong with it all, then I think clips of slaughterhouses, traps, antibiotics and hormones used, etc., should be shown on TV every day for family viewing.

This is something that most people do everyday - eat meat. As long as you know what you're eating, and you're OK with it all, then fine. But for little effort, you can find out what happens to the meat you're eating from start to finish. It's like knowing you're drinking polluted water imo.

Sorry to rant.

Hi KD,

I was a little surprised to see the information that bacon was the meat that more people would have difficulty giving up. I've been out of town today and as I was driving home I asked myself that question. I can't recall what led into my thinking about it, but the decision was bacon. Telepathy???? I don't eat bacon that often, but I do love bacon, especially on sandwiches with homegrown tomatoes.

I haven't had more than two pieces of bacon in almost twenty-five years. The bacon turned to all-fat some years ago and I was too disgusted to eat pure fat. I do not eat much in the way of meat, but instead, load up on carbs - which is why I'm so fat anymore. I would like to eat raw or cooked veggies more, but every attempt by watchdog groups to require that the grocer put the country of origin on each veggie has been shot down with federal government support. I won't eat anything that isn't grown in America - especially fruits and vegitables. I only eat frozen veggies from a local producer where I know where the crops come from and fresh fruits out of season can rot in hell with the DDT and other carcinogen-drenched outlawed pesticides that are routinely used south of the boarder. I don't eat fish, because of mercury poisoning is not fun. I refuse to eat bottom fish or shellfish because pollutants are so heavy everywhere. I only eat seafarm grown shellfish or bottom fish. I'm not finiky or picky, but these days, if you don't want to die of cancer like my mom just did two weeks ago, you you've got to be more careful of what you eat.

And now, idiots spray WAX on Apples! Now you can't wash off the pesticides anymore and you have to peel the apple to keep from being poisoned, which makes it largely worthless as the peel has most of the nutrients.

Hi Antiquary! I think if I thought about it, bacon would be up there. It's good with anything...especially fresh tomatoes!

I remember when I was 17 working in this place that made herring, back there there were these huge wooden barrels filled with cherries. the bigger jars of herring would get one cherry.

The fish came to us in these metal carts with big old wagon type wheels packed in salt.

A lot of women worked out on the floor. cleaning and packing the fish. We had pride in what we did there.

We always spent some of that money we earned on what we made.

Exactly whats missing is the pride. glib speeches and fancy comercials wont create pride. Pride comes from knowing that this was your best.

Coming from a farming family we've always been big meat eaters. Over the years we've cut down...but could never [would never want to] give it up totally.

I think people would eat more fruits and vegetables if they were home grown or from a farmers market. The food you buy in the store is either picked too soon or has aged too much while it makes it's way to the grocery stores.

The quality and flavor difference in taking them straight from the ground, tree or bush and eating them....is unbelieveable.
