LOL - I was reading the Yahoo site today and came across an article that stated ebay is considering filing a lawsuit against Bill Simon [running for CA governor against Gray Davis - present CA governor] because the website they've set us is too similar to ebay.

I'd love to hear comments from any CA voters after they view a couple of these auctions on important issues.

Looks like Simon [and crew] aren't taking the site down, [at this point].

"We think there are numerous differences, one of them being eBay clearly sells products to the public, while Gray Davis clearly sells public policy," said Simon press secretary Mark Miner. "The only similarities there are is they're both sold to the highest bidder. We stand by the Web site."

LOL! Now that's a clever web site for political satire! Too bad Simon is just another Nazi waiting to scoop his own jaw full of bribes and public finds for his buddies. Ca. voters ought to all vote for the Independant candidate instead in order to get someone honest in there.

By whom, junquemana? Don't think I've heard. Was away for three weeks helping with a newborn granddaughter.

Linda-K, There is a man with a patent on selling collectables and goods on the internet. The name escapes me at the moment..
anyway ebay made him an offer in 2000 to buy
his patent.

The "Man" had his patent in place 5 months before Mr. P" started his collecting
site.Mr.P"did not bother to put any patents
on ebays set up(or couldnt) Now the "Man"
Is taking on ebay and ebay is sweating big time. The Mans attorneys want a big chunk of
ebays stash.

Congratulations on the new granddaughter LindaK!

I think all this suing stuff is going to far. A parody is obviously a paradoy and nothing more.It is not a competing website for goodness sake.

Thanks for the link, junquemama.

"If (MercExchange) were to prevail on any of its claims, we might be forced to pay significant damages and licensing fees, modify our business practices or even be enjoined from practicing a significant part of our U.S. business. Any such results could materially harm our business," eBay said in its filing. "We are unable to determine what, if any, potential losses we may incur if this lawsuit were to have an unfavorable outcome." OH BOY....and how will/might this affect all the sellers who earn a living selling on ebay.

Thanks rawbunzel - It's such a joy having a new baby in the family. I'd forgotten how small they are. So precious. Happy Belated 29th Birthday to you.

Linda, I doubt that. The only reason for Ebay to change what they do and how they do it would be if they were to lose the suit, and were still unable to get a license to use the patented ideas. That would not be in the interest of the patent owner. He would rather force ebay to pay the going rate. The worst case for small sellers is higher fees to pay the royalties...

dejapooh - You're most likely correct. I was just surprised to read the quote I posted as it was ebays statement on their filing report. They're required to inform stock holders of possible negative issues that may result in their stocks tanking...should this man win his suit. [You most like know that]. I'll keep my fingers crossed for those who do earn a living on ebay that should he win it [only] results in higher fees.

Well...thank you, Borillar.

Slimy Simon is just another snake. Ebay has to wait in line behind everyone else that is suing him.

I'm going to have to vote for Davis, not that I want to! But, I'm afraid a vote for anyone else will be a vote for Simon. Just like voting for Nader was a vote for Bush.

Will we ever have anyone worthy of our votes again?

One can hope. I hate to think of Davis staying on--he's had his greedy eye on PERS money since he started and one of these days he'll get his hands on it...and there will go a big part of my retirement $

Funny you should say that, bunni. Here in Oregon, the legislature has been drooling and whining as they claw at the protected PERS here. Since they can't get at the money stored there, they want to demolish it. Both Republicans AND the Democrats here want that! Surprize! Surprize!

Chococake, I won't pretend to tell you how to vote. I have no idea who the Independant candidate is anyway. He or she could be a worse worm than Simple Simon or Grey Davis. Grey Davis backstabbed Californians during Enron. Voters in your state have a tendancy to recall such things, even past six months down the road. I doubt that many will be voting for Davis at all. That means that your vote won't count, as you'll be wasting it on a dead horse. In the meantime, you could be registering your contempt for their contempt of you by voting for the Independant candidate, if said candidate doesn't Seig Heil the flag himself that is.
