It is being reported that the U.S. has given some deadly viruses to Iraq. The CDC gave samples of the West Nile Virus to Iraq along with two dozen other deadly viruses including Dengue fever and Bubonic plague. Cuba was given the encephalitis virus as well. Maybe they are now giving some back to us. How nice of them!

This is the latest fear mongering message to promote Bush's war.."Saddam is ready to use chemical and biological weapons." He has had these weapons for 17 years. According to the 1994 Senate Hearings, it was revealed that the United States supplied chemical and biological materials during the Iran Iraq war as late as 1992...including the alleged Iraqi gas attack on the Kurdish village.
According to Ron Paul, a Republican Congressman, "there is a Pentagon report that found no conclusive evidence that Iraq was responsible, that Iran occupied the very city involved, and that evidence indicated the type of gas used was more likely controlled by Iran not Iraq."

Correspondence from the Center for Disease Control was just discovered regarding West Nile etc. This has nothing to do with the old accusations and was not disseminated by the Bush administration.

That's interesting. These new viruses were delivered to Iraq during the same time period in which the the "old" biological weapons were delivered. Note that the delivery date of the letter is 1995. I suspect that it was just released as part of the "campaign".
"In a just released letter written in 1995 to a U.S. senator, former CDC director David Satcher admitted that from the early 1980s to 1993, more than two-dozen deadly viruses were hand carried to Iraq."
"Included were Dengue fever virus, bubonic plague, and West Nile virus."

Helen- Your desire to attribute everything to a Bush fear-mongering campaign knows no bounds. Don't you think that such a report might have a somewhat different effect? West Nile has killed 94 and there are now 1963 reported cases across the country. Maybe attention will be directed at preventive measures. Or once again directing concern at the failure of a U.S. agency to do the right thing? Remember that there are many who fear that an attack on Iraq might result in the spreading of biological/chemical weapons that might otherwise not be used! Cuba with encephalitis? A closer danger?

If attacked, Saddam will retaliate with whatever weapons he may have including biological and chemical weapons. He may, for example hand off these biological/chemical weapons to terrorist groups to "return to sender".... a good argument against a preemptive stike on Iraq.
There are plans being made right now for massive smallpox vaccinations. Unfortunately, not all possibilities will be covered because time is limited.

This was prepared in 1998, but gives the history of contributing to Iraq's stores. I recognize some of the items as being used in genetically altered foods, pesticides or drugs.

There is a very interesting study of Hussein in the Atlantic Monthly. This is VERY long, but fasinating. And frightening. I liked the part where his ambassador congratulated him for accepting an offer by the Iranians, thus preventing bloodshed. He replied that talking was for the weak and that by the offer the Iranians showed weakness. He attacked Iran 9 mo. later.
He IS fun at parties.

Reamond....
"He'll hand these weapons off to terrorists whether we attack or not."
While an enemy like George is waiting in the wings with weapons of real mass destruction, Saddam would be crazy to send biological and chemical weapons via terrorists. Saddam is a sitting duck - ruthless but not crazy.
