So I'm roaming the Net tonight looking for this & that...including a Czechoslovakian version of "Beauty & the Beast" I saw at Filmex in 1979, Panna a netvor. It was a wonderful film and I've always wanted it for my own (I collect this folk tale).
I'm debating emailing them about *if* they sell to foreigners, and if so what kind of payment they accept, and what postage would be. But what are the odds that they will speak English? I certainly don't speak Czech! Yeah, I know the film probably won't be subtitled like the copy at Filmex was (& wouldn't I like to ask 'em about the availability of a subtitled copy?!?!?), but I'd still like to add it to my collection. Using a currency converter, I discovered that 379.00 in Czech $ equals a teensy bit more than $12.29 in US dollars so I wouldn't be out much.

You think that that's funny? In all likelihood you'll find that whomever responds to your contact 'speaks' better English than you do.
I find your remarks to be provincial, racist, ethno-demeaning, and entirely inappropriate.

Dobré Jitro, Bunnicula -
Go for it. Email and see what happens. And if need be, use one of the online translator sites.
Some sites are limited in which languages they translate but here are two that might be of help.

They do English to Czech and Czech to English

Well, I emailed them & got a reply. It'll take a while to decipher, though. I think they used some sort of translation site a la Babelfish--it's in English, but *very* scrambled & almost impossible to follow. Those things are pretty creative in their translations I'm looking forward to getting this film--have been looking for it 23 years. Subtitles would have been nice, but I'll still be able to follow the plot as it's a version of "Beauty & the Beast." I remember it from the film festival as a dark, scary, B/W version in which the Beast looks like a bird of prey.

Hi Choco!! I think krs was just being sarcastic.
That's great that you found your film! I wonder if it'll be the same as you remember?
I'm looking for a b-movie from the 60's called "Chicks on Wheels". It's about an all girl bikers club called the Man Eaters that goes around ruining men bikers lives. It's hilarious!! If anyone ever runs across this, PLEASE let me know.

kraftdinner: I hope my memory of the film matches reality, too! It's bad when the two don't jibe--like when I finally saw old Felix the Cat cartoons again when I was in college; I'd been hooked on them as a kid but hadn't seen them since. Positively *hated* the cartoons as an adult...couldn't understand what the fascination had been all those years ago.
But like it or not, I'll still be glad to have it. I collect this folktale and have over 40 book versions, 10 or 12 film versions (shorts & features), screenplays, calendars, etc.

LOL @ Krafty!
Bunni, I *think* the movie you're looking for is on eBay right now, either released under a slightly different title (or maybe you have the title wrong?) Read this auction description and see:
"We are the hellcats nobody likes! Man-Eaters on motorbikes! We own this road so you better get lost when you hear the roar of our cut-out exhaust! Bug off or you'll find that you have blown your mind! Get off the road!" Yes, that's the title tune (and advance warning) of HERSCHELL GORDON LEWIS' ode to red-hot mamasl, She-Devils on Wheels, a truly berserk biker flick quite unlike any other.
The Man-Eaters are an all-gal motorcycle gang! Led by tough-as-nails Queen (BETTY CONNELL), this "bunch of hog riders" spend their time terrorizing a local community, and racing each other for first pick at their male-groupie.
Unfortunately, good girl Karen (CHRISTIE WAGNER) doesn't want any old guy. She wants Bill (DAVID HARRIS). But since "steady" is discouraged, the gang gives her an ultimatum: she can either drag Bill behind her cycle, or she can take Bill's place. Poor Bill. "We ain't no daisy-pulling bunch of broads! We're the Man-Eaters!"
But when the girls' favorite drag strip is invaded by Joe-Boy (JOHN WEYMER) and his "stud-bum" gang of hot-rodders, war is declared!
All of which ends with Queen rappin' right to the audience: "We don't owe nobody nothin' and we don't make no deals! We're swinging chicks on motors and we're Man Eaters on wheels!" But please note: while the girls wallow in violence, they refuse to use profanity.
Shot in Miami back-to-back with Just for the Hell of It and reportedly featuring real-life biker babes in the cast, She-Devils on Wheels is an outrageous drive-in classic and one of Herschell G.'s most popular films. (It was even picked up by American International and released on a double bill with the first Billy Jack film, Born Losers!) The script was written by ALLISON LOUISE DOWNE who, in addition to writing the Blood Feast screenplay and starring in flicks like Nature's Playmates under the name "Vickie Miles," was also a former Miami probation officer!
This Special Edition features a digital transfer from the original 35mm gear-grinding negative, the theatrical trailer, the short: "Biker Beach Party," plus a Gallery of H.G. Lewis Art!
Do a video search at eBay for She Devils on Wheels and you'll see the auction.
Also, if that's not it, I know where your best bet in the whole is for finding it:

That was kraftdinner looking for that film, plsmith!
But you're right about Eddie Brandt's. I've gotten films, stills, posters, etc. from them for years. They've been invaluable for my animal actors collection.

Oh my Gawd Pat... that's it!!!!!!! I've been looking for this video for years!! No wonder I couldn't find it, with the wrong title and all. How on earth did you figure it out??? This film is soo funny. One of the girls in their club gets raped or something, so for revenge, 2 of the girls stretch a wire across the road and when the bad guy rides his bike through it, it cuts off his head! Thanks a million Pat... I'll go check eBay now.
That's weird about Felix the Cat Bunni. I used to love watching the cartoons as a kid but when I saw them later in life, I didn't see much humour in them. I sure remember the jingle tho..."Felix the Cat, the wonderful, wonderful cat. Whenever he gets in a fix, he reaches into his bag of tricks..."
P.S. Choco, I only do that with rawbunzel's tequila. She must spike it or something...

Whoops, sorry for the confusion, Bunnicula.
Yes, Helen, my reading comprehension could use some improvement. I made a delightful gaffe elsewhere recently, where tolerance for mistakes is non-existent. My favorite line from that bash was:
"Eat your sh!t sandwich and shut up."
Krafty, I'm glad it's the right movie. Sounds like a real howler
