The changes are already taking place in our country due to illegal immigration. No wonder big business doesn't want the border sealed.

I know that many people ask about what harm there is in being a bi-lingual nation. I've had this discussion on many boards for a decade now. Few people will agree with the reasons why this is a bad thing. I've never understood why they take that position when the evidence so profoundly shows the harm that it does to a unified nation or culture.

To make matters worse, also in Houston, now the voter ballots are printed in VietNamese in addition to "Spanish/Mexican". In the downtown & s/w area, street signs are in English & VietNamese.
World wide English has become the "universal" language.
If I were to more to a foreign I believe I should learn the language.
When a "foreigner" comes to the U.S. they should learn to speak english.

What the dominate language is is totally dependent upon what the dominant culture is.
If the US keeps absorbing Latinos at the present rates, Spanish will become the defacto unofficial language of the country in many regions. You can't stop popular culture.
However, now that corporations have invested Billion$ in Spanish language ventures, the corporations will also fight against "official" language movements. These corporations did not spend billion$ on Spanish broadcasting if they felt that it was only a fad.
This will have a huge effect as sooner or later, law and other cultural artifacts will all be in Spanish.
The populations south of the Rio Grande are far larger than the populations north of the Rio Grande, and all that are able are heading north. As the economy falters in Latin America, the flood will grow worse.
I have no problem with allowing immigration, and think that we should only allow the poor to immigrate, but there is a limit as to how many a region can assimilate.
