My first Lunt Silversmith Christmas ornament got broken last year and I am looking for a way to repair it. This morning I took the broken ornament to the jewerly store where it was purchased to see if they might be able to fix it - the jeweler said traditional jewelry soldering would melt the gold plating on the ornament and that laser soldering would be expensive ($30 per weld spot - 4 weld spots needed to fix, so we're talking $120!). The ornament has sentimental value and I'm not ready to part with it (I have been checking various online auction sites for a replacement for over a year now and have not seen one listed), but I don't want to spend $120 to get it repaired.
Does anyone here have experience at either repairing ornaments or having had an ornament repaired? Is there some less expensive ornament repair procedure other than laser soldering that won't damage the gold plating?
