I'd never heard of it. Here is a website which explains the reason these awards were formed, and who won them in different years.

There are two categories of rank awards: Distinguished and Meritorious. Award winners are chosen through a rigorous selection process. They are nominated by their agency heads, evaluated by boards of private citizens, and approved by the President. The evaluation criteria focus on leadership and results.

It still makes me wonder about all those kickbacks er, uh, I meant to say bonus's.Whats wrong with a cheap trophy for the desk? A nice framed Distinguished and Meritorious award letter.

There should not be any compensation above the Government salary.

Now, junquemama, you are speaking of our elected officials. Save money? Whatever for?
Only one of thousands of ways our hard earned tax dollars are spent.

I can remember, a long time ago, when one of the TV stations started doing a weekly program on government waste. Only lasted two or three weeks before it abruptly was ended. One can easily guess the reason....let the people know how much is being wasted? No way. They might object.

Come to think of it,One of the big networks had a show on,Showing Gov. waste. They would chase around Congressmen at private clubs, and vacation resorts, taking advantage of company perks for favors. It got too close,The last time the show aired..They said next week, we will get into the UFO stories.
POOFFFFFFFFFF! They were gone.

Yet we Americans vote the same crooks or new crooks everytime because "it's not my candidate."

Also, Americans have a deep-rooted distrust of the honest and concerned....They must have something to hide.

mlecher,Has there been any honest men or women running?.Right now Fox has a show on,(I hear it in the background)about a Senator who goes to Washington, and makes all kinds of troubles for the rest of the Senate. That comedy may not make it....For years Ive heard of and witnessed, graft in Mexico,Its been the butt of many jokes. Now I think, all of it was from lessons learned here in our own Country.

The only difference between corruption in Mexico and corruption here is appearances. In Mexico, everybody knows it exists and learns to use the system to their own advantage if they can.. Here..we pretend it doesn't exist, and when it rears it's ugly head we act all outraged and talk about "isolated incidents"...sure seem to be a lot of those these days!!
