Looks like he'll only take exile once the entire country of Iraq is in smouldering ruins. I seriously doubt that he'll ever tuck tail and run. Where would he be able to hide from his enemies for long without his millitary and police machines to protect him? Nebraska?

Idi Amin did it without his army. Saddam has so much money he could live like a King wherever he ended up at.
But I think now that there are several thousand US troops amassed around him he knows we mean business and he is going down.
I look for him to go into exile rather than face either US forces hunting him down in Iraq or his own people catching up to him. If not exile then there will be a coup.
His army leaders won't allow him to destroy their own country either.

I do so hope you're right, Reamond. This 'discussing personal business' doesn't mean it's about him stepping down though. I can only hope that the pressure on him becomes stronger and that he does.
I have read where it was stated that he has been transfering millions of $$ out of the country, but it was believed to be so he could get his family out and into safety.

I've read that his daily life is awful - even before the U.S. thing. He sleeps in a different palace every night and nobody knows which one, or which room until the last second. Different meals are prepared and he chooses which one to eat (it's tested for poison first). His clothes are kept in a vault so they are protected from contamination. This goes on everyday. Can you imagine living in such fear?? What kind of control is that?

I think that they will allow a small amount of action. Without at least attempting to enguage the enemy, no millitary officer could hope to hold power in a post-Saddam regeime. The fighting will be brief, maybe only a few hours at most.

I hope he lievews to write a book on how he did it. It would be fascinating reading, especially helpful for anyone who was thinking about how wonderful it would be to live such a life. Only another madman would find that information a comfort.
