Here's an excerpt from an article by Rich Lewis, in the Sentinel on February 13, 2003.
It's a good example as to why and who we think we hate. It's not a one sided essay. It just something to think about.
"It seems our list of enemies grows longer each day. Terrorists hate us, we hate them. Some forget where the line is and suddenly it's Muslims hate us and we hate them.
We hate Saddam and he hates us. Which so easily becomes Iraqis hate us and we hate them. And Iranians and Palestinians and North Koreans.
The French, Germans and Belgians are thwarting us. We are annoyed by them; we are furious with them. Who has time for such nice distinctions; we hate them. With us or against us, after all.
The world is seized in a frenzy of fear, anger and hate. Maybe this was inevitable. Too many groups of people with conflicting visions and goals got too big and too close. Or maybe a few murderous fools have upset the always delicate balance of human relations and we have not tried hard enough to set it right again.
Hard to say, but the whole enterprise seems to be sliding helplessly toward some dangerous edge.
Ice. Yes, it would definitely suffice."
