But I did copy it.

WWI or WWII Vintage French Battle Flag
Up for bid is something unique. A very very rare French Battle Flag. My grandmother was a nurse with the Red Cross during WWII. Helping our brave American soldiers after they stormed the beaches of Normandy under heavy German fire. She was then ordered to go inland to see if she could help there.

While driving alone across France she became lost and drove into a large French village to get directions. Once there she discovered three battalions of Elite French Commandos who had been hiding in the village since 1939 practicing their very special kind of battle tactics. “Evasion’on” I think they called it.

She was surprised to see that as soon as she step out of the jeep, the commandos quickly retreated and hid. They were very good at hiding it seemed. She started searching for someone to give directions when the French commander sent a twelve-year-old girl out into the street waving this very French Battle Flag to seek “Terms of Surrender”.

Confused, my poor grandmother said she only wanted directions so she could help some real soldiers. These terms were accepted and the commander immediately surrendered. The French immediately began to complain that under “Rules of Engagement” they were now her prisoners and she would have to defend them.

Too her surprise 3 German soldiers also surrender. Well they weren’t really soldiers but 3 German Boy Scouts out hiking before the war but they had uniforms and one had a pen knife. Seems they had captured the village 5 years earlier and were now glad to rid themselves of the whining French peasants. The Germans were shock to learn the French Commandos lived in the same village. Never once had the Germans seen a French soldier, but each now notice all the ugly French women were missing. Seems they were really good at hiding.

On a side note, pure white French Battle Flags like this are hard to come by, seems that the bed linden used to make these flags usually had a yellow tint to them for some reason. Grab this item while can.

Canadian Bidders are always welcomed. Thanks for helping get our people out of Iran in 1979 and now for standing with us in this new battle. I am very sorry about the lost your country suffered because of our military mistake. But, the pilots are not criminals. My government is wrong to treat them as such. They made a horrible mistake that they will live with the rest of their lives. We should remember what nations that are truly at fault and what people are responsible for putting our servicemen in harm’s way. They alone are to blame and they should be made to pay.

I was not aware that Ebay was the proper forum to spew prejudice and hate... Even less aware that prejudice and hate sell so well.

Wow. You learn something new every day.

"The French are cheese eating surrender monkeys" ... how nice. I am quickly losing all faith in America. We can be just as horrible as anyone else, sometimes worse.

Maybe our fear's really turning us into bigger bigots than ever. How sad.

You think that auction is sad??

I'll tell you what's sad. A nation defending a dictator that gases his own people and attempts to take over a neighboring country, and refuses to obey an order to disarm. And defending this distator because your nation has billion dollar contracts and has been selling banned material to this country. Now that's sad. The auction is funny. What France and Germany are doing is sad. You have a strange moral compass.

Good for Ebay!!! (For Removing This Auction)

The auction is not "priceless" and it is SAD. Thank Goodness I have a moral compass diametrically opposed to your's Reamond.

And like the French, proudly announcing they were sending Mirage jets on photo recon missions to aid U.N. inspectors in searching Iraq. What the French failed to tell was the jets did not have film in the cameras.

My moral compass is in the right direction. I may not agree with most governments, ours included. But that does not make me so cold that I forget that citizens of a country do not necessarily agree with governments either. Most normal people just want to live a peaceful life. I don't think making a mockery of entire race of people is the way to peace at all.

I don't know what is right in world politics, I don't know what to think anymore. But I don't think it is right to lump people together this way.

How does not being a bigot make my moral compass off?

The French are a race ??? There is nothing wrong with telling the truth about a nation and its leadership.

Free speech works both ways. There were those that chided Churchill in the 1930s for calling Hitler and the Germans names.

There is a moral compass problem when you protest and protect a butcher and murderer like Hussein. And that is exactly what the French, germans and anyone else is doing when that act to prevent the Western alliance from taking out Hussein.

How many of you would complain and protest in the streets when the police came to arrest a man that was beating his wife and kids ? Hussein is the equivilent of a man who has murdered his wife and children, and you want to do anything you can to prevent the police from arresting him.

Nope, it is crystal clear that my moral compass points truth North. The others seem to be having severe directional problems.

My moral compass is in the right direction.

There is no compass for Morality. Everyone has a different idea of what's good and bad.

Which way would the compass point if someoone disagreed with you? South? East? What if someone just disagreed a little?

Amen,
The Right Reverend Colin

Well, if a seller wrote the story in an eBay auction description, then of course it must be true. {insert rolling eye gif here} Obviously the seller wouldn't be bigotted enough to make up a phony story to spread bigotry.

What the truth of the matter is that America makes you sick and you side with all those aligned against her,no matter hwo it is.

Sorry - but personally I loved the description. It was cute, it was humorous, it was very tongue in cheek.

Once bidding got into the 5 digit range the seller decided added that the proceeds would go to their local fire department. When it came down it was going for 20k.

Kind of reminded me of a line on West Wing last week.

"The French have denied us access to their airspace.
Not sure why we would need it to fly to Africa, but .. ok."

I thought it was kinda funny too

And I looked him up, and on all his previous auctions he puts that blurb about free shipping to the military, FBI etc. Also all that about the Canadians

20K wow

Colin, did you buy it?

>There is no compass for Morality. Everyone has a different idea of what's good and bad.

You want to talk about Morality, Colin? OK. Let's talk about your idea I quoted.

>There is no compass for Morality.

What IS Morality, then?

Common useage is:

The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language: Fourth Edition. 2000.

NOUN: Inflected forms: pl. mo·ral·i·ties
1. The quality of being in accord with standards of right or good conduct.
2. A system of ideas of right and wrong conduct: religious morality; Christian morality.
3. Virtuous conduct.
4. A rule or lesson in moral conduct.

Right and Good. Right and Wrong. Is there no possible common ground for Humankind to agree on worldwide today?

"Do Unto Others As You Would Have Them Do Unto You."

Not just advice, but moral behavior. To get treated right, you have to treat others right. Being kind to others is probably the most universal moral attribute; heck, even animals can appreciate kindness diected at them. I have no doubt that this one qualifies as a Universal Morality. In fact, I can tell you that there are many such common virtues that directly equate to universal moral behavior; Honesty, Love for one another, Trustworthiness, and so forth.

>Everyone has a different idea of what's good and bad.

When things are simple, I think that we all can agree on what constitutes Good and Bad. When life gets more complicated, more gray, then it becomes harder to distinguish right from wrong, I'll agree. However, if you have solid convictions and a firm understanding about your convictions and why you believe them to be both right and to be True, then there is hardly ever a time whe you can't tell the difference between Right and Wrong, Good and Bad. Therefore, one should take the time to figure out just where they stand and WHY they stand there!

Finally, I just want to say that morality needs to be taught, not just picked up through random chance through osmosis in our society or having someone tell you what to think and not to explain why it is so. Morality needs Wisdom behind it, both Knowledge AND Experience. Those two together are a winning combination that will never steer you wrong.

Your turn, Colin.

IMO, it's political satire, not blind hate. Considering the current political climate, I personally find it offensive, but not particularly offensive. I will say it is fairly well written.

Pretty strong post from you, Irene. Are you okay?

Borilla, I don't think you read my post. "There is no compass for Morality"

Not for me to judge. I don't wear the long flowing robe.

If anyone is judgmental, It would be you. Seems by your posts, that you believe you have the answers to all the world's problems.

You don't debate, You state and take offense to any that disagree.

Morality is a standard that is set by who?
Your moral ideals may be very different from those in a third world country. May be very different from those in the barrio, the rich, the poor, Catholics, Jews or Muslims just to name a few. This is something you learn as you get older and deal with all kinds of people unless you live a cloistered life.

There is no compass for Morality,

Amen,
Reverend Colin
