My son's first grade teacher Mrs. Baker is starting her annual postcard project. In their social studies curriculum, the children study families from around the world. In an effort to make this project more interesting for the students, Mrs. Baker is asking families to have their extended families, friends, military friends, or business associates send postcards to her classroom from the states or countries in which they live or are visiting.

Last year Mrs. Baker's first grade class had over 300 postcards from all 50 states and 15 different countries. Many here may remember me posting a request similar to this one last year asking for your help with this project. Thank you for all the postcards fellow AW folks sent last year!

I am asking my AW family to help again this year, especially since my son is actually in Mrs. Baker's class this year (he was in kindergarten last year).

If you would like to help with this class project, please send a postcard from your hometown or place you may be visiting to the following address:

Mrs. Baker's First Grade Class
Cook Elementary School
5500 Perrine Road
Midland, Michigan 48640

Thank you in advance for all your help with this project!

Hair2dye4, I'm not sure exactly when the postcards need to arrive at school - I'd say folks have at least until the first part of May if they'd like to send one.

Last year Mrs. Baker displayed large US and world maps on the walls in the hallway outside her classroom; each day the class would read the postcards that arrived at school that day, then at lunchtime Mrs. Baker would place a marker on the maps indicating which new locations had been added. The children were very excited about the project - I thought it was a great way to teach them about geography, culture, and history (many of the postcards mentioned historical facts about the towns/cities/states).

Just to say HI! Hope all is going well with your SIL.

Mrs. Baker's class is missing the following states:

Alaska
Utah
Wyoming
South Dakota
Nebraska
Iowa
Oklahoma
Alabama
South Carolina
Delaware
Connecticut
Rhode Island

If anyone is from one of the above states and would like to send a postcard, your help would be much appreciated!!

Linda_K, thanks for asking about my SIL. She's doing great - she goes for her last (4th) chemo treatment next Monday, April 21st. Sometime after that she'll be going through a series of radiation treatments, but I don't know exactly when those will begin. She did lose her hair within a week or so of her first treatment, but she is wearing a wig and it looks very much like her own hair. She and my brother will be spending Easter with us, so the kids are really excited to be spending time with their "uncle" and "auntie".
