Before the war started our newspaper had big elaborate diagrams of Hussien's bunkers. According to the German manufacturers these bunkers were totally safe. I wonder if the new Iraqi gov can get a refund.

Well that's a pretty silly statement... we may have got him!

If that's true reamond, why all the bombing today?

Kraft - there are legitimate questions over whether or not he , and his sons, were taken out.. One reports states that CIA operatives saw them enter the "bunker" before the bombing but did not see them emerge, another, the one mentioned here, says he emerged but was injured. In the meantime, they are taking out governments buidings and the Presidential Palace. Quiite frankly, I don't have a problem with this. If they were in an area heavily populated by the public I would feel different but these are heavily guarded buildings in an area of Bagdahd that is not very accessible to the status quo.

What I find interesting however is that our government has now stated that the tape seen on the first night was pre-recorded but has not stated whether or not it was actually Saddam which they undoubtedly already know.

Isn't it funny that it is a danger to reveal things to their own people that the other governments and even enemies already know?

That's a pretty dumb question, but I'll type the answer slowly.

If Saddam and his sons are dead, that does not mean that the military automatically surrenders. Our military still has to control the country to search for the WOMDs.

Do you think if our president died, our military would surrender to North Korea ? Real war does not operate like it does in the movies.

You don't have to get upset reamond. I would've thought they would have halted todays bombing until they found out for sure. Big deal.

We keep bombing/fighting/liberating until the REGIME is removed. That is the administration's stated aim of the campaign.
As to being carried out on a gurney, it's probably one of the dozen or more decoys brave King Saddam surrounds hinself with.
Either way, I'd rather it was him on that gurney than helen, kraftdinner, or any of the others who don't recognize the threat Saddam's regime represents to America; it's an American right to be wrong - that's why we need pragmatic leaders instead of would-be intellectuals to defend our country.
God Bless President Bush for having the resolve to protect America as he vowed to do when he was elected.

Silly silly thing for France to say. Nobody asked their permission. They seem to think that is a sort of natural law to get their OK. If they want to remove the new administration I guess they can mass on the border and roll in and remove the US forces just like the Iraqi forces are being removed. Should be even more interesting than what's happening now. And we KNOW they have nuclear weapons.....

News reports said they sent 2 bunker busters into Saddam's bunker. They should of dropped 20 in there.

If it absorbed two 2000 pound penatrators and ANYBODY came out alive it was built pretty well.

ferncrest, I can't speak for Helen, but I've never said that Saddam is not a threat to the U.S. I've thought all along Saddam has had WOMD and have had no doubt that he would eventually use them. My only problem is the U.S. having to resort to war to remove this guy (and his regime), which makes me suspicious whether his removal is all the U.S. is after. N.K. does quite a bit of posturing, but, in my mind, is more of a threat to the U.S. because of all the weapons it sells to other countries, and the fact they are also nuclear capable. The people there are starving because of this dictatorship yet nothing is mentioned about liberating them.

I've also said that if the casualties of this war are limited and retaliation is something that doesn't materialize, I will shout with joy that I was wrong!

France is in no position to demand or participate in anything in international affairs.

Prediction: England and Poland will assume the leadership positions in the EU. The EU takes on a whole new verve and mission, France and Germany become isolated.

Hi kraftdinner -
Sorry, I may have misunderstood your position somewhat . . .
I'm glad you recognize Saddam's threat, but I hate to see you're still worried about the U.S.' motives. This country never resorts to war unless there is no viable alternative, and we're not an imperialist nation - if we were, we could have occupied Germany and Japan and not helped those countries rebuild into democracies.
Unfortunately, the same sort of diplomatic foot-dragging the UN diplayed in the Iraq crisis is likely to impede a meaningful approach to North Korea, which is unquestionably a terrible regime which also ignores its people's needs while building an illicit weapons program.
I pray that President Bush and his administration can find the right combination of diplomacy and progressive pressure to eliminate the North Korean threat. It's a complex issue that definitely needs to be addressed by all the countries in the region, and is not, as some have suggested, a matter which only concerns Washington and Pyonyang.
I respect your willingness to temper your opinion of the war with what happens - none of us have all the answers, but we should all have opinions.
