Associated Press Writer WASHINGTON (AP)
The Senate unanimously approved tax relief for military personnel and reservists, with lawmakers saying that those fighting for their country should not have to come home to burdensome taxes.
"Our nation is relying on the military in unique ways," Senate Finance Committee Chairman Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, said. "They risk their lives. They shouldn't have to risk their finances, too."
The Senate's 97-0 vote on Thursday followed a 422-0 vote in the House last week on similar legislation. The versions need to be reconciled before it can go to President Bush.

In that same article this subject was mentioned:
The Senate would recoup some of the $700 million of the cost [of the above bill] by enacting new restrictions on people who renounce their US citizenship to avoid paying taxes. Have you heard of this being done?
Anyway....a little benefit for our soldiers is always welcome.

That would be great, Linda.
I have one cousin in the 2nd Marine EB near al Nasiryah (sp?) and another who's either in Kuwait or Iraq (also a Marine, Forward 1st Force Recon).
I'm sure they'd appreciate the relief as well.
