Submitted fyi and without comment, other than it's too bad that the number of Iraqi civilians who have been killed by paramilitarists firing on civilians cannot accurately be added to this count.

If they want to be safe, get out if Baghdad... I'll say it again... better over there than here, they know we are going to be bombing, why stay in the city? Damn if this was WWII think of how many civilians would be dead.
I am getting tired of this "nice" war... we need to decide if we want Saddam out or not... let the heavy bombing begin and anyone in the way dies...

twelvepole - Not only are they not 'getting out' but I keep hearing of many Iraqi people who live outside Iraq are returning to Iraq. It's in being said they are doing so to help defend against the coalition forces. Not to mention the Iranians and Syrians who are reported to also be coming in to join the Iraqi forces, and supplying war supplies to Saddam.
This is a very tough place to be in. Some Iraqi's most likely would like to leave, but can't because they're being forced to stay. They're being used as human shields by the Iraq 'army'. Some who have tried to flee, were shot leaving. You've read that those in Southern Iraq who have just waved at British forces have been hung.
Their killing their own people but would love to put those 'head' counts on the US military's head.
Look at how Amnesty International is reporting on the war dead and injured...rarely a mention of what the Iraqi's are doing, but blame, blame, blame the US for every 'violation of war' they can.

twelvepole, I'm convinced that Saddam's powerful special guard units have terrorized the Iraqi public to the point where they feel they can't leave safely. We know of Saddam's past history of killing relatives of those he's mad at - he's such a frickin' worm to use civilians like he does.
You know from my many posts on the issue that I support the disarmament and regime change - but I think we owe it to the Iraqi citizens to proceed as carefully as possible.
I have two cousins in the Marines over there and I want them to come home safely, so I say we bomb the p*ss out of the Iraqi troops whenever we can, but continue to protect the civilian population as much as possible.
We're the United States, by God, and we should never let anyone forget who the good guys are.

I agree. And when your family members return home, please give a BIG thanks to them from our family and friends.
Some are confused about who the 'good guys' are....they think their country are the 'bad guys'.
I agree with the point of doing all we can to protect the innocent civilians. And I believe we have been. But if at any point we are loosing too many of our soldiers, a choice is going to have to be made.

Have you wondered if the US powers that be, actually have it all going to plan????
Why didn’t they get the Iraqi TV station on day 1 ???
Why did they warn Sadam to keep out of military sites???
Why aren’t they keeping surrendering prisoners until the war is over ?????
All these actions have served to extend the war, haven’t they???
The troops I see on TV seem to genuinely believe ‘until now’ to be there to ‘liberate’ the people of Iraq. They appear to be the ‘Good Guys’ but I’m not so sure about the powers that be.

Military prisoners are being held, civilians that "surrender" are not because it's quite kind of difficult to house entire regions.
Many of the early civilians are in Kuwait in camps being trained as possible guides and translators as we start to get control and will need better and more wide spread communications skills with the Iraqi people.
