I just broke down and reserved a copy of Harry Potter: The Order of the Phoenix. I hate buying new hardback books because I read so fast, but I can't deny that I'm dying to look at this one! Yes, I'm a grown woman but I'm also crazy for these books (and movies.)

If you are a Harry Potter fan and haven't yet pre-ordered the book thru Amazon, I'd suggest calling the local Barnes and Noble or BooksAMillion and reserving a copy. They're matching the online discounts and you won't have to pay shipping.

scholastic book fair held at my kid's school in may had a pre-order special. For 29.95 you got a never to be offered again really cool cap, black, with the movie logo on the front and "6-21-03" embroidered on the back, a spiffy poster and an invitation to a special publisher's party to pick up your book on the 21st...We ordered 6 sets, one for the kid, one for me, and the others maybe for Ebay or gifts..he (and I) can't wait...As a teacher I have seen those books get kids reading like no other novel...if you haven't read them you really should. I just wonder what the next movie will be like for two reasons...one, I fear the actors are aging faster than the movies can be made, and two, what are they going to do now that what's his name who played Dumbledore has passed on?..oh yeah, here it is, Richard Harris..

I have heard that Ian McKellen, Lord of the Rings' Gandalf is slotted in replacing Richard Harris.

As for the kids outgrowing their parts, I am sure the casting personnel picked the actors that could stay within the ages of the characters. Since Harry just turned 13 when he went to wizard school (correct me if I am wrong), in book five he will be 18. He and the other kids can appear to be 18.

This is a common practice. Young actors/actresses in their 20s (and even 30s) can and have portrayed high school students, with their youthful appearances, makeup and now current computor technology, it's possible. Remember that David Cassidy tv show that he played an undercover cop (aired in the 80)? There was one episode that he went undercover at a high school. Cassidy was about 35 years old.

Yup, I've reserved a copy. My 6 year old son started reading the first Harry Potter book last week and is hooked! We told him when he finished the book we would rent the movie (it'll be the first time he's ever watched a PG movie, but I think after reading the book he won't be scared of the ogre or three-headed dog scenes).

Oh, your girlfriend is truly a Libra. I do that all the time! Not to go off the track, but how's she doing with her venture? Tell her to be sure to contact me once she's up and running!

Michael Gambon will be playing Dumbledore. He's a very skilled character actor who has worked mostly on stage and in smaller roles in films. The early word is that made up, he bears a striking resemblance to Richard Harris.

As to the age of Harry and Daniel Radcliffe, the actor who plays him, Radcliffe is growing up waaay faster than the movies are being made. I wish they'd speed up filming, the way they did with The Matrix, so that Radcliffe can play Harry for as long as possible, but realistically, "Prisoner of Azkaban (now filming) may be his last turn as Harry. (Especially if they break "Goblet of Fire" into two movies as is being discussed.)

I credit the Harry Potter series with getting my 14-year-old niece to read at all. She has done OK in school, but was an indifferent reader until she picked up the first book. The last time I saw her room there were books scattered everywhere!
She's now working her way through the Dark Materials series by Phillip Pullman, which I actually found to be better-written (from an adult standpoint) than the Potter series. However, it doesn't grab you the way Harry Potter does.
