BENTONVILLE, ARK (AP) -- Some Wal-Mart customers soon will be able to
sample a new discount item -- Wal-Mart's own brand of wine. The
world's largest retail chain is teaming up with E&J Gallo Winery of
Modesto, Calif., to produce the spirits at an affordable price, in the
$2-5 range.

While wine connoisseurs may not be inclined to throw a bottle of
Wal-Mart brand wine into their shopping carts, there is a market for
cheap wine, said Kathy Micken, professor of marketing at Roger
Williams University in Bristol, R.I. She said: "The right name is
important."

So, here we go: The top 12 suggested names for Wal-Mart Wine:

12. Chateau Traileur Parc
11. White Trashfindel
10. Big Red Gulp
9. Grape Expectations
8. Domaine Wal-Mart "Merde du Pays"
7. NASCARbernet
6. Chef Boyardeaux
5. Peanut Noir
4. Chateau des Moines
3. I Can't Believe It's Not Vinegar!
2. World Championship Riesling
And the number 1 name for Wal-Mart Wine ...
1. Nasti Spumante

My wife is making me go to an artsy-fartsy reception with a bunch of snotty types who have more money than sense next month. I had already planned to get my boots polished by shuffling thru the chicken house right before leaving, but a bottle of this nectar would be the perfect host gift. When can we hope to purchase a bottle?

ROFL, prof! Truly this is one of the funniest spams I've gotten in years. Glad you enjoyed it. And I'm afraid I'm going to remember your shoe-polishing hint 'way longer than I WANT to. . . .

Just think, Roadsmith! Now, everytime you consider the taste of wine, you will associate it with Profe's shoe polishing technique! LOLOL

Walmart has some 2-buck chuck by Oak Leaf Vineyards. The chardonnay isn't bad. They also have merlot and other wines under this vineyard.
Its not where the other wines are in the store but at the end of the aisle across from the meat counter.

Thanks, Neva. We'll be there next week and will look for it. We've been served some Oak Leaf wine here in town, and it was pretty danged good. Of course, we're not aficionados!

Yep, we have discussed wine before, usually with Jack but don't hear from him anymore. He always called it two buck chuck.

Oh the horror! I apologize for that. I was reading this old thread which is related to a post that I made in the Steve and Barrys thread and accidentally posted my response to this thread rather than the new one.

SWMNBN is posting elsewhere, trying her best not to erupt, almost domestisised with a fluffy puppy as her avatar.

Well, long as we're on the subject, may I recommend a 2006 MOURVEDRE, from Alcantara Winery in Arizona's Verde Valley. I sold their daughter a horse two weeks ago and hauled it up there, and I charged them a mixed case of their wines to help cover delivery costs. Not exactly two buck chuck, but if you've got a special dinner coming up, this would be an interesting addition to the table, especially with a good roast or steaks. We just finished a bottle with some dry aged rib steaks and a salad and I gotta tell you I'm going to order some more before it's all gone.

This is really funny. When I got one of the recent postings in this thread, in my e-mail, it was as though I didn't remember the topic at all (after 5 years). When I looked at it here, I realized I'd posted the original thread. Doesn't seem like 5 years, though.

Still funny, huh.

And on topic, a better comparison of SWMNBN would be a foul and thoroughly unpleasant sensory experience bottled with a moldy, contaminated cork.

Yes, Roadsmith, still funny after all these years.

After the wine is clear, it must be stable before being bottled. Stable means all fermentation has stopped for good. An unstable wine can resume fermentation in the bottle and lead to disaster -- a popped cork or exploded bottle.
