The movie he made, depicting the final hours of Jesus Christ, The Passion (no subtitles, and in 2 dead languages; Latin and Arameic)... so all these liberal outfits are all up in arms, thinking it will make people anti Jewish... WHATEVER! Christ was a Jew, so were all 12 apostles and everyone that followed him. Give me a break! (besides it was the Jewish Hierarchy that did it, not the Jewish people, actually it was the Romans that were in charge at the time, damn, just read two chapters of the Bible Hollywood)
Hollyweird has been pretty rough on Mel Gibson, because of the movie... so far its not going to be shown.
He's a devout Catholic. SO WHAT... but Hollywood doesn't seem to like it.
I don't have the link, but I read one today that said, if your Christian in Hollywood your a 'closet Christian' you won't find many studios hiring you if they know. Isn't that nice? NOT
And thats really all I have to say about it.

The movie is not yet set to be shown because last I heard it hasn't actually been made yet. It's the script that is controversial at this time.
Hollywood is not convinced it will make people anti-jew. The jewish anti defemation league does. Also a group of Jewish historian felt that it was historically unbalanced. Changes were made to the script based on reccomendations pointing out inaccuracies.
There have always been accusations of pro Jewish favortism in the entertainment industry. (Lets also not forget the infamous Velvet Mafia as well) Of course, depending on what roll or contract the person who is complaing just lost that same prejudice exists against non-scientologists, heterosexuals, brunettes, women over 30, men under 5'11", etc.....

There was an initial showing of the film in Houston (TX) this past weekend. I'll try to locate a link with the review.
Not just Jews are concerned -- the film was first questioned by a nine-member panel that included Christians. Gibson is a member of an ultraconservative Catholic movement which rejects the Vatican's authority over the Catholic church. Gibson has said the film is faithful to the account of the crucifixion in the four Gospels and is meant "to inspire, not offend." The star of the blockbuster "Lethal Weapon" movies and Oscar-winning director of "Braveheart" has spent nearly $30 million of his own money to produce, co-write and direct "The Passion," starring Jim Caviezel as Jesus and Monica Bellucci as Mary Magdalene. Filmed entirely in the dead languages of Aramaic and Latin, it has yet to secure a distributor
"I don't know that he will be able to find a studio that will distribute this," said Kim Masters, a film columnist for Esquire Magazine

Well the modern church has rejected almost every other doctrine or statement of historical fact in the Bible when they felt it was convenient so why not reject the accounts of how Jesus was arrested and tried also?
They should just dump the bible bare faced instead of trying to double talk around it. People do what they want anyhow. They held or freed slaves and found support for both views in scripture.
Makes me realize how similar they are to the politicians who are saddled with that nasty constitution that they are at odds with so often. Same thing. They do what they want anyhow.

Near - My appologies - I just saw a piece on the movie in the past few month or so where they said that he was catching flak for the movie even though it has not yet entered production. They weretalking about how just the script that was making the rounds and raising much ire.
I agree that they are going to have trouble finding a distributor on it.

Hey Helen
LOL! yeah I guess, but I'm staying out of political stuff lately.
Stopped by here to see what was going on. Thought I'd throw this one out there.
I somehow got myself into writing, never thought I would, but its something I'm really into (not political though! ) so thats been consuming.
I have to agree with Gibsons religious views. I was raised Catholic, and that was one thing I disagree with (well there are others ) that the Vatican has the all authority over the Church. No, I don't believe the Pope is the closest thing we have to God on this earth.
I would see the movie. They made all those 'epic' ones back in the 60's and later, and showed the whole trial and crucifixion, and no one b*tched. I understand this is quite graphic, yes, but it was something he is deeply passionate about.
fenix03 no problem! I didn't know if this subject had been brought up here, since I haven't been here in so long. There are a lot of trailers out there, besides the one link I did give
I surely hope he gets some studio to distribute it.

Hey NTS - I wanted to hear about your move....but not going to get off your topic...sometime maybe?? who, what, when, where and why?
------------
You mentioned the religious films of the 60's.
and Hollyweird has been pretty rough on Mel Gibson, because of the movie... so far its not going to be shown. He's a devout Catholic. SO WHAT... but Hollywood doesn't seem to like it. Filled with those who want anything religious wiped off the face of the earth. Let those who wish to see it do so ...and those who don't...just don't go.
I, personally, love Mel Gibson but most likely wouldn't go see this as it's not in English. I've never cared for foreign films or films with subtitles.
