Bush Steps Up Pressure on Iran Over Nuclear Plans
By Glenn Kessler
Washington Post Staff Writer
Friday, September 26, 2003; Page A17
President Bush turned the screws on Iran yesterday, saying the Islamic republic faces "universal condemnation if they continue with a nuclear weapons program."

Iran has insisted its nuclear program is only for peaceful energy purposes. But the Bush administration earlier this month succeeded in persuading the International Atomic Energy Agency to demand that Iran provide an explanation of its nuclear program by Oct. 31.

The president said he raised his concerns about Iran's nuclear program this week with world leaders attending the U.N. General Assembly.
"I'll tell you, the response was very positive," Bush told reporters. "People understand the danger of the Iranians having a nuclear weapons program."

I think Iran has about a year to play their games. After the 2004 election, Iran is going to be Bush's next project.

I agree. Wondering how the talks between Bush and Putin are going to go this weekend about Russia's contributions to Iran's efforts.

Why doesn't any other country care about Iran's nukes. Heck, the border Russia and they don't care. Nobody cares but the USA, the country with the most nukes.

Linda,
did you forget to mention that Iran is an 'Islamic republic'.

It may help for effect if read by an anti-Semite, or it may help to win over more anti-Semites.

Only a stupid person would call an entire category of human beings, whether left, right , center or apolitical, stupid.

If you have ever played th strategy game "Go" and look at a map of the middle east with current military deployments in mind you see that in order to make the next move the US must increase the rhetoric and disinformation fed to us.
Republican, the other white meat!

cut'n'paste from above link.
During the past few days, both BBC and CNN have reported with increasing frequency that the resistance fighters are dressing in civilian clothes, and that Iraqi soldiers deviously use the white flag to attack the Marines. Presto, now we can expect a massive increase in the number of civilians slaughtered by the Marines. Maybe the imprisonment of Iraqi soldiers is becoming burdensome too, and the US was poised to abrogate the Fourth Geneva Convention in any case. Throw in a bit of the usual disdain of killing "mere Arabs" and this war is fast becoming an incredibly bloody fiasco.

If you had any capable PRO-WAR sites then I’m sure you would post them.

Go right ahead.

FREE TIP: Don’t forget to use the word ‘evil’ for effect.

And now others are beginning to show their support on this issue.

THE WASHINGTON TIMES
The European Union, echoing the Bush administration, warned Iran yesterday of severe consequences if it continues to seek nuclear weapons, as officials in Tehran admitted that traces of weapons-grade uranium had been found at a second site by international inspectors.

EU foreign ministers meeting in Brussels increased the pressure on Iran, saying lucrative new trade deals could be scrapped if Tehran did not "immediately comply" with demands by the United Nations' International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for stricter oversight to prove Iran was not seeking to build a nuclear bomb.
"We want Iran to state unequivocally that there are no nuclear weapons possibilities that could be developed as a result of any nuclear program in Iran," British Minister for Europe Denis MacShane told reporters in Brussels.
Added German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer: "A nuclear arms race in the region is about the worst thing you can imagine."

Iran has been increasingly on the defensive since the IAEA board overwhelmingly passed a U.S.-backed resolution earlier this month setting an Oct. 31 deadline to agree to tougher inspections of a suspect nuclear site.
Revelations last week that IAEA monitors had found enriched uranium at a second site south of Tehran have heightened fears that Iran is secretly seeking a nuclear bomb.
State Department spokesman Richard Boucher said Washington would press the U.N. Security Council to take up the question directly if Iran fails to meet the Oct. 31 deadline, but he and other administration officials have refused to say what actions they would urge the council to take.
"It's one step at a time," said Mr. Boucher. "It's time for Iran to answer the questions it's been asked and to comply with the obligations that many other countries have accepted."
