A few comments on another thread by skylite and replaymedia made me think of this collection which I had not read in a while. How many do you remember?
Close your eyes and go back in time before the Internet or the ATM,
To Hide and Seek at dusk,
The Good Humor man,
Red light, green light,
The corner store.
Hopscotch, butterscotch, doubledutch, jacks, kickball, dodgeball,
Mother May I? Red Rover and Roly Poly Hula Hoops.
Running through the sprinkler.
The smell of the sun and licking salty lips, wax lips and mustaches.
An ice cream cone on a warm summer night.
Chocolate or vanilla or strawberry or maybe butter pecan.
A cherry Coke from the fountain at the corner drugstore.
Eating Kool-Aid powder.
Watching Saturday morning cartoons.
Short commercials.
Fat Albert, Road Runner, He-Man,
The Three Stooges and Bugs.
Or staying up for Gunsmoke.
A million mosquito bites.
Sticky fingers.
Cops and robbers, cowboys and Indians, Zorro.
Climbing trees.
Building igloos out of snow banks.
Walking to school, no matter what the weather.
Running till you were out of breath.
Laughing so hard that your stomach hurt.
Jumping on the bed.
Pillow fights.
Spinning around, getting dizzy and falling down.
Being tired from playing.
The worst embarrassment was being picked last for a team.
War was a card game.
Water balloons were the ultimate weapon.
Baseball cards in the spokes transformed any bike into a motorcycle.
There were two types of sneakers for girls and boys (Keds and PF Flyers) and the only time you wore them at school was for gym.
It wasn't odd to have two or three "best" friends.
Nobody owned a purebred dog.
A quarter was a decent allowance and another quarter a miracle.
Milk went up one cent and everyone talked about it for weeks.
You'd reach into a muddy gutter for a penny.
You got your windshield cleaned, oil checked and gas pumped, all without asking, for free, every time. You didn't pay for air, and you got trading stamps to boot.
Laundry detergent had free glasses, dishes or towels hidden inside the box.
Nearly everyone's mom was at home when the kids got there.
It took five minutes for the TV to warm up, if you even had one.
Your mom wore nylons that came in two pieces.
It was magic when dad would "remove" his thumb.
Girls neither dated nor kissed until late high school, if then.
All of your male teachers wore neckties and female teachers had their hair done.
Any parent could discipline any kid, or feed him or use him to carry groceries, and nobody, not even the kid, thought a thing of it.
They threatened to keep kids back a grade if they failed -- and did!
Decisions were made by going "eeny-meeny-miney-mo."
Mistakes were corrected by simply exclaiming, "Do over!"
"Race issue" meant arguing about who ran the fastest.
Money issues were handled by whoever was the banker in Monopoly.
The worst thing you could catch from the opposite sex was cooties.
It was unbelievable that dodge ball wasn't an Olympic event.
Having a weapon in school meant being caught with a slingshot.
Scrapes and bruises were kissed and made better.
Taking drugs meant orange-flavored chewable aspirin.
Ice cream was considered a basic food group.
Getting a foot of snow was a dream come true.
Abilities were discovered because of a "double-dog dare."

You forgot Davy Crockett.
Triple features at the movies.
Coke and a slice for less than a quarter.
Republican, the other white meat!

For kraft it would of had to been
reading by fire light...
walking to school in the wagon tracks...
wondering what that loud noisy four wheeled machine was...
marching with the "ladies" to get the vote...
Me, I remember most of those things, only for me it was Daniel Boone instead of Davey Crockett and the balcony was where you wanted to be... to throw things on others below

I don't remember some of the things on the list, but I still love this - brings back some happy memories when the world wasn't so crazy.

wgm;
They do sound like the good old days.
I've forgoten more than I remember.
I'm in Au & even we remember when Daniel Boone was 'a biiiig maaan' & Davey Crockett was 'King of the wild frontieeeeer'. LOL
Strange… the things we remember.
After decades, having been to secondary school, I think I can still recall ‘pi’ (to 8 significant decimal places) 3.14159268.
And although I wouldn’t know what to do with it:-
Avogadro’s Molecular constant ‘6.023 X 10 to the 23rd Power’

Twelve, just because you were abandoned as an infant because you had goat eyes, is no reason to take it out on others!

When I was in elementry school I used to walk.
So during the fall and winter I used to take a shotgun with me on the walk so I could hunt on the way to and from school.
When I would get to school I would go to the office and leave my (shotgun and shells) with the secratary, then I would pick them up at the end of the day.
Do you think that would work today?
I do remember almost every thing on the list.
Except my dad never removed his thumb. But he did cut off his toe once!

Oh great, aust - now I have the "Davey Crockett" theme song playing over and over in my head!
lol dad - did you kill a "bar" when you were barely 3? Sorry, just a little silly with that song...it sounds very adventuresome and I am sure you enjoyed it. No way doing it now!
As the times change, seems it hardens us more and more.
prof - I say yes! ice cream is STILL a food group! Especially Ben & Jerry's!
ROFLMAO @ KD

Never shot a bar before I was three.
But I do remember drooling over Sally Star!
I remember buying candy bars that were twice as big as the ones you buy now-- for a penny!
