Good Questions....

"Surprising Roadblocks for the U.S. in Iraq"

As the situation in Iraq slowly but surely evolves, several critical questions should be asked: Why is the United States in such need of foreign military assistance? Is the need and its subsequent publicity designed for domestic political consumption? Is it a goodwill gesture towards the international community, affording many originally skeptical countries the chance to now become involved? Or is there a legitimate need to reinforce U.S. forces now dealing with a longer than expected deployment and low troop morale? Is massive monetary expenditure what Iraq needs to become peaceful, stable, or democratic? At what point does the amount of money invested become moot when the fundamental problems aren't ones of a financial nature but ones of cultural and religious divides, historical legacies, and social discontent?

The Power and Interest News Report (PINR) is a global organization that provides analyses of conflicts and other international events. We are currently independently funded giving us the freedom to analyze objectively. PINR seeks to provide insight into various conflicts, regions and points of interest around the globe. We approach a subject based upon the powers and interests involved, leaving the moral judgments to the reader. PINR seeks to inform rather than persuade.

As soon as I read the part about "inform rather then persuade" tells me it is going to be a liberal rag...

All information is there to "persuade" some type of thought... in this case more President Bush bashing.

"As soon as I read the part about "inform rather then persuade" tells me it is going to be a liberal rag..".

Surely you don't base your opinion of this news source based on those four words without reading the article. Surely you don't intend to tell everyone that this is a liberal news rag based on nothing more than that.

Actually, its an exceedingly fair and moderate view of what's happening all over the world. Read it and tell me what's liberal about it and why you have chosen to label it a rag. Is everyone who is critical of Bush policy a liberal in your opinion? BTW...that would include most Americans.

You and all the other Bush supporters need to experience a little TRUTH for a change.

What "truth"

The "truth" that President Bush is the ONLY world leader to do what needed to be done?

He represents the US, so to allow "Bush Bashing from non US Residents/Citizens is the same as bashing the US.

That trying to affect change in a country that never has enjoyed the freedoms they enjoy today is going to take longer than 6 months...

Those are some the truths I understand.

So now, you've attempted to duck the question about the news source by diversion to the issue of "bush Bashing from non US Residents/Citizens"-- a topic on another thread. I suppose that you are addressing that to austbounty again? From my viewpoint, I don't understand how you can critique France or any other country while expecting no one from another country to criticize Bush who is endangering the entire world.

I agree that bringing freedom to Iraq, an occupied country, is going to take longer than 6 months. In fact, it may never happen. You say that Bush is the only leader to do what needed to be done. So far, he's done nothing constructive.

Twelve, do you know how many times the reason for "invading" Iraq has changed?

"At what point does the amount of money invested become moot when the fundamental problems aren't ones of a financial nature but ones of cultural and religious divides, historical legacies, and social discontent?"

This is a question everyone is asking. Why is it so difficult to discuss?

twelve - Haven't you figured out yet that everyone EXCEPT helen is always wrong?

-----------------

"It's a good thing the current crop of Democratic candidates weren't running for president in 1944.

Instead of defeating Hitler and Tojo, we might have ended up with an 'exit strategy' that saved American lives in the short run but cost us our freedom and way of life. Indeed, the Democrats' disgraceful performances to date suggest that most of the candidates would like to cut and run from Iraq, no matter what the consequences.

Unfortunately, they've managed to convince a majority of their fellow party members that this is the right thing to do. ... What we need is not an 'exit strategy' but a commitment to win this war, no matter what sacrifice it takes.

The Democrats are doing all that they can to undermine that commitment, and the polls suggest they are succeeding in persuading a growing number of Americans the war is not worth winning. It's a dangerous game -- one in which all of us could end up the losers." --Linda Chavez

Another from The Federalist - today.

"The troops returning home are worried. 'We've lost the peace,' men tell you. 'We can't make it stick.' ... Friend and foe alike, look you accusingly in the face and tell you how bitterly they are disappointed in you as an American. ... Never has American prestige in Europe been lower.... Instead of coming in with a bold plan of relief and reconstruction we came in full of evasions and apologies.... A great many Europeans feel that the cure has been worse than the disease.

The taste of victory had gone sour in the mouth of every thoughtful American I met." --Life Magazine, January 7, 1946

In 1944 the Republican's were aiding and abetting Hitler and his thugs.

Prominent Republican's were openly selling supplies and munitions to the Nazi war machine setting a standard now followed by their heirs in the guise of Haliburton.

And yes fortunately a Democrat won the election or we might be sieg heiling today although it seems some are.

Comment on The Frederalist a right wing propaganda rag better suited to be used as TP!

I'm never wrong either, Linda!

It all boils down to trust. The U.S. doesn't trust the Iraqi people to come up with a democracy on their own. Because of that, the Iraqi's don't trust the U.S. I don't see how that can be changed, short term.

and you don't care either, helen, as long as we run out with our tail between our legs....

-----------------

Enraged over their loss of political power, Gore and some of his fellow Democrats have assumed the role not of supporters of their own country as it prosecutes a war, or even of impartial judges, but of Saddam's defense attorneys--not just skeptical of the charges against and suspicions about the erstwhile dictator, but outright advocates of the proposition that he is innocent.

"and you don't care either, helen, as long as we run out with our tail between our legs...."

As I have stated many times, lindak, I believe that we should leave as soon as possible but not irresponsibly.

What on earth do you mean by your statement that I don't care? I, unlike you, care about our troops. I care about our country and about our world.

Twelvepole said: "Helen, That place has left leanings and I have no intention of reading it... That good enough for ya..."

So you try to influence anyone just stopping by the Round Table by saying: "As soon as I read the part about "inform rather then persuade" tells me it is going to be a liberal rag..." and then admit you have not bothered reading the article?

Do you always make commnents like that without reading the linked paper?

Are you hoping non-thinkers will just take your word for it?

Thank you for posting the article Helen. I will read it later when I have time.

Aposter, There are posters here --- now the majority, in fact, who are so far to the right that they actually believe that the New York Times, The Washington Post and MSNBC and CNN are liberal news sources. Only Fox news, Newsmax and occasionally the Wall St. Journal are acceptable to them. Of course, they consider anything published outside the U.S. possibly infamous and highly suspicious.

Linda, That is ANOTHER LIE.

You falsely accused me of linking to an article in the Moscow Times when in fact I purchased the article from LATIMES which had been archieved.
That can be read in this thread...http://www.vendio.com/mesg/read.html?num=28&thread=165779&id=165832

Remember? When you jumped to that conclusion and even suggested that I was a COMMUNIST based on your lying accusation that I had linked the article from MOSCOW???

I HAVE NEVER LINKED TO THE MOSCOW TIMES AND AS USUAL, YOU CAN'T BACK YOUR STATEMENT UP WITH A SINGLE FACT.
