... a good relationship, is picking someone who's the exact opposite as you (according to an A&E show). Do you agree with that?

Well...it's long been said that opposites attract. I believe that's true to a degree. Besides chemistry we seek in another what we don't have in ourselves. But I also believe that couples need to have certain things in common. Like morals, values and some common interests.
Long ago it was said that the three biggest issues that couple fought over were sex, money and how to raise the children. Not sure if that still applies today.

No, I don't agree with that. If it were true, I would be in love with Linda.

I don't think so Krafty - I know one major personality trait of mine that being with someone the opposite of my own would spell disaster on. I am ferociously protective of time on my own. I'm one of those people that loves just being by myself, I even ditch friends while we are vacation to go do my own thing. If I was with someone that wanted a great deal of "together" time I would quickly become very unpleasant to be around. On the other hand if they actually shared that trait, I could probably deal with a lot of other differences. I have one person that I see that shares that trait that is very differrent from me in a number of ways but it has never been a problem and we get along great.

If it's really "common" sense, why do so few people actually have it?

Yellowstone, I don't know you except for a few juvenile insults that you've left for me here and there. Now, I see that you are learning french. Good for you!

Kraft,
I agree with your original post about 90%. There has to be something that you both have in common in order for the relationship to work. If you both don't share the same core values than the other things that you dont have in common will not make the relationship last.
