No, this isn't about Twelvepole...

Do you think the cause of all these priests acting out sexually against children, is caused by sexual immaturity, or what?

I don't think the Catholic priesthood 'causes' anyone to become a pedophile, Krafty. I think people who are pedophiles seek work that will put them in contact with children. And what a great cover the priesthood is! All that authority, the built-in notion of one's own 'guilt' in all matters, as taught so deftly by the Church's catechism, and non-stop access to children of both sexes and all ages.
Cop, firefighter, teacher -- all of those professions appeal to pedophiles...

I think it's sexual repression. It's not a natural thing to suppress those urges. Priests are around little boys a lot and some of them can't control themselves and I think it gets to be an addiction and is also to do with power.

Some guys, no matter what occupation, are just afraid of real women or think they should be all subservient so they choose children that they can control and dominate.

I don't think sexual repression causes pedophilia nor do I think pedophiles are sexually immature. Their preference is for the sexually immature, and the reasons are complex. Otherwise, it would be treatable, and no treatment so far has been proven to have more than a small chance of sucess.

Oh, great, Snowy... now Max is gonna come in here and holler "Kill them all!" and I'm gonna agree with him and then someone will turn this into another political thread! Darn you, anyway!

Perhaps a lack of concern for other people’s wellbeing is a streak that runs deep through our societies.
To make matters worse, some brand one a ‘communist’ when one wishes to assist in the welfare of others?

When one gives no assistance to another, other than to say ‘get over it’ or ‘help your self’; it completely ignores external forces.
How can we expect society to show so much more help for children with such little concern so many of us show for adults.

No respect for the well being of other cultures; no respect for other neighbours; no respect for other villages; families; children and often even our own.

‘God helps those who help themselves’ B.S.!!
What of the child that’s been left behind?

Before it's over with the authorities will discover that pedophile priests were recruiting pedophiles to be priests. Pedophiles will also be found in charge of many more seminaries.

There is no way that many priests could be doing these things, and all the covering up without there being an infrastructure within the catholic establishment in the US.

Some of you will be shocked to find out that what is regarded as abuse here is regarded as normal behavior elsewhere in the world.

An amazing example - despite the fact communist countries are usually very prudish - A fellow went to China and found there were photos of Senior Party officials out in the rural areas showing them holding children on their laps fondling their genitals. Seems that is considered normal and affectionate by the peasants and that was their way of demonstrating they were in touch with the rural people - a 'regular' guy like a politician here putting on a NASCAR hat or cooking at a BBQ.

re. The China example:
Is that anything like the practice of telling juveniles that they look ‘sexy’ (ie. inspiring of sex), as was the supposedly innocent custom in our countries by many, just a few years ago. GROSS!

I hear that Barbie (the $20 Ho) has dumped Ken, after being unwed partners for over 40 years, and is rumoured to be seeing an Aussie surfer.

Now that's a lovely role model for bringing up kids to be mature adults.

Have they released the new 'break-up-Barbie' yet?
Perhaps even a new 'who's your daddy' partner.

Right, Gravid. Many behaviors/practices in other countries are quite shocking to me. The ritual mutilation of Muslim girls is one. The widespread abuse of children throughout Asia is another. Widowed women in rural India really would be better off dead, even though the Indian government has outlawed suttee. Asia harbors what has been widely-dubbed 'the sex capital of the world' -- Bangkok -- where one can do anything humanly conceivable.

And while I found the whole NASCAR thing to be politically offensive, it sure beat the heck out of having to see photos of Georgie fondling little kids...

If you are speaking of a clitorectomy; most Muslims also find that shocking.

The ones that do practice it are obviously backward.

I see little difference between the labia and the foreskin.

I was of the understanding that there were only 2 or three places that practiced ‘clitorectomy’.

But also note the site says, “it is also performed by Christians and followers of traditional African religions. The practice is more widespread among the illiterate, but it is also common among the educated.”

You're appealing to my late-night side, sir; you know, the one wherein I might say anything...

So, if we did have a formal Elvis religion, with him as King, would there be a carved wooden likeness of him choking to death on a porkchop while seated on the john in every sacred Elvis house of worship?

Ms.Smith, one might also ask:
With at least one life time pilgrimage to the tattooist to have
Phoenix Arizona 1949
tattooed on your spine., and if the king’s spirit had transcended on you, you’d know because you would be able to shake your pelvis like no other on earth???
And smite all disco heathen?

You obviously know wayyy more about Western religious practices than I do, Austy. It never would've occurred to me that Elvis was the Anti-Disco, for example...

Ah - the pilgrimage would have to be to Graceland but the tatoo I like. You could have that done after you stop and throw rocks at the nearest Baptist church on the great one's birthday.
