People that talk about the weather like it's some new thing. Every year in Canada, we have a thing called winter. It usually snows or rains or both. Sometimes there's wind involved. Yesterday, a neighbour asked me, "when is this going to end?" (????). Today, another said, "OMG, did you hear there's a freezing rain warning in effect that could come our way?". Am I the only one on the planet that remembers what happens here in the winter and that each year it's a sure thing? I want to scream "take some Ginsing or something people!!".

Rant off.

LOL KD....you think they'd be used to it by now wouldn't you. But I've noticed that the weather is a big part of conversations that take place here, compared to CA. In CA it's either raining or not raining. Not a whole lot to discuss. Here...tornado warnings, thunderstorms, lightning storms, rain, heat, etc. Life here revolves around what the weather is like or going to be.

Maybe those in Canada will be the next to move to the US where there's more sun.
I remember Irene used to share about your winters.....cooooold.

Somebody's always tired of the weather, whatever it's doing....maybe they're just making small talk, kraft. I talk about it a lot, but it affects my life pretty directly. No rain, no grass....too much rain, I have to watch out for hoof rot and bloat.

"... too much rain, I have to watch out for hoof rot and bloat."

Heck, it never dawned on me that rain was my problem!

It's OK for warm weather people not to understand about winter, but there's no excuse for that kind of talk around these parts. There are igloos on some of our coins, for heaven's sake! Winter ends around April - same as it has for centuries. It shows up around the end October, and will again this year, so heads up people!!!

My all-time favorite is the Loonie. I handed 'em out as party favors the first year they were issued. My guests took it from there and we had a lot of laughs...

I think a lot of it can be blamed on the media. The the local channel plays

*** ICE STORM WARNING*** TUNE IN TONIGHT FOR OUR SUPER INFRA-RED ULTRASONIC DOPPLER STORM-EYE-TORNADO-BLIZZARD-TSUNAMI RADAR REPORT!

Every five minutes, they feel they have to come up with something dramatic to keep people's interest. The ONLY thing on the news that really affects most people directly is the weather. Not sports, politcals, crime or human interest stuff. Only the weather ihts everyone. Naturally this is what they choose to up their ratings.

Even people who realize that it snows every few days in the winter get a little antsy when they hear this kind of fear-mongering.

Hey kraft- It's like those who move near the airport and complain about the noise. BTW- Ginseng is usually a stimulant. I don't think they should take that to chill(no pun intended) out! Maybe some brandy!

I have to laugh at your post, Replay - it's so true! In the summer here, there's thunderstorms all the time, but NOW, they're called "Thunderstorm Warnings" or "Watches", like it's a big deal! They make it sound like you're supposed to hoard canned food and run to the basement, or something. I don't know about you, but I sure love sitting outside in a thunderstorm!

That's exactly it, Stusi! (Good to see you, btw!) I thought Ginsing was for memory... I forget now.
