Just in case you weren't feeling too old today, this will certainly change things. Each year the staff at Beloit College in Wisconsin puts together a list to try to give the faculty a sense of the mindset of this year's incoming freshmen. Here's this year's list:

The people who are starting college this fall across the nation were born in 1985. They are too young to remember the space shuttle blowing up.

Their lifetime has always included AIDS.

Bottle caps have always been screw off and plastic.

The CD was introduced the year they were born.

They have always had an answering machine.

They have always had cable.

They cannot fathom not having a remote control.

Jay Leno has always been on the Tonight Show.

Popcorn has always been cooked in the microwave.

They never took a swim and thought about Jaws.

They can't imagine what hard contact lenses are.

They don't know who Mork was or where he was from.

They never heard: "Where's the Beef?", "I'd walk a mile for a Camel," or "de plane Boss, de plane."

They do not care who shot J. R. and have no idea who J. R. even is.

McDonald's never came in Styrofoam containers.

They don't have a clue how to use a typewriter.

Do you feel old yet? Pass this on to the other old fogies on your list.

OMG... I'm going back to school in the fall. I GRADUATED HIGH SCHOOL in 1985. I don't think I'll mention that to anyone!

Another good one Libra, is when people on eBay described things as being antique or really old and they were made in the 70's or 80's.

To be honest, I did get a couple of two-year degrees from the local community college back in the late 80's, so it's really more like 14 years off, but yeah, it'll be an experience!

You know how it goes... I went to community college with the plans on moving on up to a 4 year degree afterwards, then I started my own business and just knew I'd never work for anyone else again, so never bothered finishing. Now I'm just sick and tired of the responsibility and want to get a "real job."

Ah, the life-cycle of an Entreprenuer!

As I'm pushing 40, I still wonder what I want to be when I grow up!

My favorite times and worst of times were the 70's.

I miss the 70's, but and however I will not wear 'bell bottoms' again or what they call them now-flared leg.

Way to go replay! Good for you. I only finished one year of college, in the 70's. Then the kids came.....

Replay - we graduated the saemyear and I can't help but laugh when you say..I still wonder what I want to be when I grow up!

I feel the same way. I have done at least dozen different types of jobs since I first started working and now I am running a new business and developing a second one and the two have absolutely nothing in common with each other. Truth is I don't see doing either one for more than a few years. My plan on the new one is to work it for two or three years, build it up and then sell it. Actually I am thinking the same thing for the one I am developing.

I guess I am just trying to make lemonaid from the effects of my ADD. Hopefully one of these businesses will be successful enough that I don't have to worry about what I will do down the line. I'll be able to just do whatever feels right at the time.

If it's really "common" sense, why do so few people actually have it?

I remember the 70's! I miss that time. I remember when the Vietnam War (I mean, Vietnam Police Action) ended as well. I still wear boot cut jeans and an occasional pair of bell bottoms although not nearly as wide as I used to. I remember wearing out the bottoms of my pants by allowing them to drag on the ground. That never made my mother too happy! I also remember a horrible rumor that went around in (I think) 1975 that that was the year the world was going to end. I know in this area the media played that up and I know more than one person who was frightened by it. Instead of the world ending, the Vietnam war did.

I didn't hit my teen years until 1969 so I was fairly well behaved in the 1960's. At least I think I was.
