The Dept. of Homeland Security has recommended getting rid of M$ Internet Exploder. Beats me why anybody still uses it.

Microsoft said earlier in the week it is working with law enforcement officials to identify the source of the latest Internet virus.

Wonder why they're not working instead to fix their crappy browser?

aw c'mon prof. MS is the major target for hackers and et.al's. Imagine how boring it would be for techies: no challenge without holes to find? lol.

And, where would all these brilliant techie's with bright ideas for software go? unemployed, i say!

Why is it you think apple cannot break through?? I can never really understand that. ? Guess you heard on the news too they (apple) had a really unfortunate glitch and will miss the back to school marketing/sales campaign. messed up!

This may be the same key stroke virus or possibly another one reported June 30. Never try to do anything that involves security on a browser, email or a telephone.

Net Attack Aimed at Banking Data

excerpt....

Computer security experts warned yesterday of another new Internet threat that can steal the passwords and account information of people who bank online -- the second such discovery in a week.

The only defense may be completely disabling scripting and ActiveX controls.

You're right neroter, M$ is what keeps most of the IT professionals employed. They have a vested interest in seeing that their employers stay with M$ and it's bloated products. They like 'em that way just fine. That's part of why more businesses don't switch, plus, millions of people still believe the old "no software" nonsense. Personally, I like Apple as a niche product just fine, and would hate to see them do what they'd have to do to be in M$'s position. Imagine what kind of BMW you'd get if they were designed and priced to compete with Chevys...I long ago lost sympathy for anyone who insists on beating their head against the MicroSloth wall with their systems though. They deserve it.

It's true they'll be late with the iMac update, and some sales will be put off as a result, but they won't miss anything with their laptop line, which is right at the top of it's game, and is an increasingly vigorous part of the back to school market, especially with high schools and colleges. Most schools are in such a financial crush over NCLB that it's not like they're chomping at the bit to replace the 2 year old eMacs and iMacs in their labs. They are still very adequate systems and will run the latest OS with ease.

The link above though isn't about platforms. It's about internet browsers. nobody, regardless of their computer's operating system, needs to put up with such a crappy, unsafe browser as Internet Explorer. Nobody

::Why is it you think apple cannot break through?? I can never really understand that. ?::

Three reasons...

People believe they are too complicated
Complete falsehood, especially when you consider that windows is poor imitation of the dramatically more simple Mac operating systems.

People believe they will not have the same capabilities
I can't think of anything I have not been able to do on my Mac that I could do on a PC. I've been on Macs for 18 years now. I've had to use PCs in the past but have never gained any appreciation for them. The one thing they did provide me with was ample opportunity to practice stringing out long line of curses when they evil little bastards crashed and I lost hours worth of work.
(There is one piece of software that if I could get it, I would probably buy a PC in order to be able to utilize it but ironically I would have to stumble upon the 10 year old version of it because Microsoft bought and destroyed it with their "upgrades".)

People believe they are too expensive.
OK, granted, they are more expenseive up front but in the long run, when one considers that you do not lose valueable time dealing with virus issues or an unstable platform prone to crashes and information loss and that when you purchase a new piece of hardware, it guranteed to be compatible and in in most cases "plug and play" there is no wasted time trying to install drivers, etc those extra few bucks are absorbed quickly.

Macs also have a longer lifespan. Try donating a five or six year old PC to many places these day and you get a thanks but no thanks. When I finally get around to getting that G5 I've been eyeing (OK, yeah, I admit it,....and drooling over), unloading my old G4 isn't exactly going to be a problem.

If it's really "common" sense, why do so few people actually have it?
