Arnie, nails em' again.
-------------------
By TIM MOLLOY, Associated Press Writer
LOS ANGELES - A spokesman for Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (news - web sites) said Sunday that the governor would not apologize for calling lawmakers "girlie men," despite criticisms from Democrats that the remark was sexist and homophobic.
Schwarzenegger dished out the insult at a rally Saturday as he claimed Democrats were delaying the budget by catering to special interests.
"If they don't have the guts to come up here in front of you and say, 'I don't want to represent you, I want to represent those special interests, the unions, the trial lawyers ... if they don't have the guts, I call them girlie men," Schwarzenegger said to the cheering crowd at a mall food court in Ontario.
The governor lifted the term from a long-running "Saturday Night Live" skit in which two pompous, Schwarzenegger-worshipping weightlifters repeatedly use it to mock those who don't meet their standards of physical perfection.
Democrats said Schwarzenegger's remarks were insulting to women and gays and distracted from budget negotiations. State Sen. Sheila Kuehl said the governor had resorted to "blatant homophobia."
"It uses an image that is associated with gay men in an insulting way, and it was supposed to be an insult. That's very troubling that he would use such a homophobic way of trying to put down legislative leadership," said Kuehl, one of five members of the Legislature's five-member Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Caucus.
"It's ironic that the governor would try to find a metaphor for weakness when his real problem is that we're being too strong," she added.
Schwarzenegger's criticism of Democrats stems in part from their support of one bill prohibiting schools from contracting services with private companies, and another giving workers authority to sue their employers to enforce labor laws. Each side accuses the other of caving in to special interests.
At a rally Sunday in Stockton, the governor gave a speech almost identical to the one he delivered in Ontario but without the "girlie men" remark. Spokesman Rob Stutzman said the line was dropped because Schwarzenegger had already sent the message he wanted to send, not because he regretted his remarks.
"It's a forceful way of making the point to regular Californians that legislators are wimps when they let special interests push them around," Stutzman said. "If they complain too much about this, I guess they're making the governor's point."
Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez, a Democrat, said that while he wasn't upset by the remark, his 13-year-old daughter was.
"She's a young girl who knows the governor and really likes him a lot and didn't find the term to be a positive term, and finds it to be derogatory," Nunez said. "It was no question a very, very insensitive comment to make. I personally am not intimidated or threatened by it, but I think it really is beneath Gov. Schwarzenegger."

LOL That IS funny. Typical....all the PC police giving their statements on why he shouldn't have called 'weak' people weak.
And he's right....be honest, tell the people I don't represent you - the voters...I represent all the special interests. Because they do and that's why the got the state in the position they did.

Some women are so stupid that they don't realize that Arnold insulted all women by equating females with weakness.
OOops, but I forgot insulting women has been Arnie's stock and trade.....sexual abuser and predator.

Oh, hell--men have been doing that for centuries, crowfarm. So Schwarzenegger said "girlie men." So what?
What concerns me more is the fact that he is deviating from his stated plan to work cross-party to resolved our problems. Our budget actually was agreed to by both the Democrats & the Republicans--the only thing holding it up now is Schwarzenegger's insistence the Democrats also agree to two totally unrelated issues...
I voted for Schwarzenegger. And up to now he has pretty much done what he said he was going to. I hope he doesn't ruin it all by doing stuff like this.

Actually the term "girlie men", when I think about it, does bother me. Not because is may or may not demean women. But rather because it is divisive, politically.
To state that you want to run the state bipartitely but use name-calling and threats against one party when you don't get your way, is not the way to get things done.

I believe that is called having a tamtrum, is it not? At least that's what I called it when my children used that tactic when they were small. So, I guess he [Schwarzenegger] is a man-child?

It really is a derogatory reference to homosexuals. Whether he intended that in his usage or not, I can't believe the Governor of California said something like that publicly!!! They are all losing any sense of self-restraint or decorum anymore!
{Think they are reading these boards? lol}

bunni says,""Oh, hell--men have been doing that for centuries, crowfarm. So Schwarzenegger said "girlie men." So what?""
And "" Not because is may or may not demean women. But rather because it is divisive, politically.""
Right, bunni, everything and anything is more important than women...is that your point?
Sorry, but just because MEN have been doing something for years does not make it right or acceptable.
It DOES demean women.
Let's see...what if Ahnold said, "You're acting like black people" and meant it as an insult???
Would that be acceptable to you because racism has been around for centuries?

big deal he said 'girlie men' it was used in one of Saturday Night Live skits back in the 70's, when things weren't so damn PC

It's being overblown up big time. He didn't mean anything by it, it was just a phrase to him- remember his background (the weightlifting and he-man stuff, not gropinating)? That's WHY people voted for him!
An apology couldn't hurt, but I can also understand why he wouldn't want to do it.
Anyone remember Ross Perot and his 'You People' statement? Had the same effect as the Howard Dean scream 'YEArgh!'. I really don't think this is in either league.

crowfarm, I think you're getting much too worked up over this. And, as a woman myself, I don't happen to think that "anything & everything is more important than women."
Men have been underestimating women for centuries and I doubt that will change completely for quite a long time. Some men will always feel threatened by women--which is why some are so angry about the strides we have taken since the turn of the century.
I am strong and independent and obliged to no man for my achievements in life. But, sorry, I just can't get all hot and bothered over the term "girlie man."

Bunni, do you think some lesbian women have taken it sorely? And not rightfully so, if they did?
I heard on some show in Australia (or Austria) it's a derogatory term for male homosexuals. <?> Thats how it came about on Saturday night live.
Though I dont think he intended it to target that specific audience -- it is California! Shouldn't he have been mindful of that or the large number of gay constituents in that state? Seems kinda like a foot in mouth thing to me.

What really gets crow worked up is his nude photo of logansdad.

However we do know that homosexuals are girly-men.. do you feel threatend by that remark logansdad?
No because I am not a flaming queen that needs to visit brothels in order to get my sexual enjoyment. I think the SNL skit was performed after watching you and Bear in the woods going at it.

Why, bunni, don't you worry your pretty little head over me getting worked up ...I'm not. I just think fair is fair. Although I do admire a feisty little woman( those hormones are hard for you delicate things to control)maybe baking cookies or something would calm you down a little. Nothing better than a woman cooking especially if it's for a man!
And, honey, you just let all this political stuff go right past you and let the men handle the real problems...you have better things to do like having babies and fixing your hair. Ya know some of those"femi-nazis" raised a ruckus and got you the right to vote but that doesn't mean you can get uppity and have opinions!
But I'll just keep fighting for equal rights and respect...even for women.

According to an MSNBC online article....a spokesperson for Arnold said he WON'T be apologizing.
They also said:
