If you don't know him, he is the so called reverend that picketed the funeral of Matthew Shepard, the 21 year old gay man who was brutally beaten and left for dead by two attackers.
With the horrible pain that Matthew's parents must have been going through, this idiot had the gall to protest that Matthew was being given funeral services in a church. Even carrying a sign that said "God hates fags". Phelps's group also planned a protest at the funeral of David Charlebois, gay copilot of the plane that was crashed into The Pentagon as part of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack.
What a bigot he is!!
Now Plelps has even gone as far as to go to New York City with the 9-11 aftermath, and picket the recuse efforts of the police and fire department. He and his group brought signs which read "FDNY SIN." Those signs depicted a couple engaged in sodomy. Phelps has repeatedly stated that God hates America as a result of its tolerance of homosexuality, and that the September 11 attacks were an act of divine retribution.
Fred Phelps's church, the Westboro Baptist Church, has also produced flyers asserting that the seven astronauts who died in the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster were in hell.
The good reverend has even created a web site called GodhatesCanada.com. He feels this is necessary to make know his displeasure that Canada has on the books a law which adds penalties to the Criminal Code of Canada for inciting the hatred of or encouraging the killing of people on the basis of sexual orientation. Again, what a nutcase!!
He also believe that ALL NATIONS must create laws to outlaw homosexuality and bring forth the death penalty for violators. He also thinks that American courts are the gates of hell.
Phelps is quoted as saying, "You can't preach the Bible without preaching hatred."

In 1969, the Kansas Supreme Court suspends Fred Phelps,(licensed to practice law in Kansas) declaring in part that he had "little regard for the ethics of his profession."
1970, On the first anniversary of his suspension from practicing law, administers a harsh crew-cut to his wife.
Nov 1973 Files a $50,000,000 suit against Sears Roebuck, Inc., because the $186 television they purchased on layaway and paid off early would not be ready until Christmas (exactly as specified in the contract Phelps signed.)
I guess it's not really bad that Phelps is doing these things. I would think in a country that had the population base as ours does, you might expect to run into a person like this every once in a while. What I can't understand is why would anyone follow his thinking??? I guess, where there is one, there is more!!

Having faith in God is moot. God IS whether you have faith or not. I have no faith in religion - maybe that's what you mean. Sheep need religion because they're lost without something to believe in to "guide" them through life - something I doubt you'll ever be able to understand.

I find their rabidity as tasteless as a gay pride parade. You've heard of the cliche 'Don't blame the messenger'? This is the flip side, Don't ignore the message just because of the messenger. Don't ignore the messengers, either. I am troubled because I see the potential for violence, similar to the zealots that bomb abortion clinics. I choose to think Jesus would be appalled at their actions.
