I'm soooooooooo glad this man will not see the light of day. A standing ovation for the judge is in order, IMO. What a sicko. The mother deserves the same fate.

AKRON, Ohio -- A Summit County judge sentenced a man to life in prison Monday for the rape of a 4-year-old boy with cerebral palsy.
John Heard, 33, of Franklin Township, also pleaded guilty to two counts of felonious assault and nine counts of endangering children placed in his care.
Prosecutors say Heard was baby-sitting the boy and his 6-year-old brother, both the children of his girlfriend, last November. Another baby sitter later noticed injuries to the 4-year-old and notified the mother.
The child was treated at an Akron hospital for broken bones, bruises and a ruptured rectum.
Heard reportedly was angry at the boy for having a bowel movement in his bed and shoved an object up the child's rectum, injuring him.
Heard was not supposed to be watching the children at the time due to a juvenile court order because of a previous abuse investigation.
The investigation was looking at other injuries suffered by the 4-year-old, including a broken collarbone and a broken foot.
The children are now in the custody of Summit County Children Services. The children's mother, who is not being identified, faces charges of child endangering and obstructing justice for failing to protect her children.
Her trial date has not yet been set.

Obviously the mother was aware of her boyfriend's abuse toward her children if there was already an investigation in progress. The boyfriend should have been removed from the home and not been a part of these poor children's lives AT ALL!
I hope someone in prison makes him their BE-ATCH!!

The perp was a HETROSEXUAL.
The reason he was charged with rape is because in Ohio and other jurisdictions, insertion of anything is charged under the rape statutes.
Oddly enough, the couple that crusaded in Ohio to get the insertion clause for rape were later convicted under the same insertion clause.
It seems the man's stepdaughter was apparently molested and had objects inserted into her and they could only charge assault as rape then was penile insertion.
The man and his wife lobbied to change the law.
A few years later the man's stepdaughter was pregnant, and DNA showed it was the stepfather's child.
But he never had sex with her. The couple instead used a syringe type device to inject his semen into the child.
Seems the couple could not produce children so they enlisted the stepdaughter.
In any event, both were charged with rape under the law they helped to create.

I agree with the verdict but what I don't agree with how did the mother go stock free? or did she. Are they prosecuting her also? If not why? She must have known something. It had to a different baby sitter that said something. Women who support these men should be found guiley also.
So much is unknown about this tragic situation such as the family circumstances and the mental status of the mother.
A child with cerebral palsey needs a lot of medical help. I wonder if the doctors noticed the abuse or any other problems. They had a school age child also, but no one in the community reported any problems?

Helen- The school age child may have been threatened into silence. These sorry-excuses-for-human-beings have been known to threaten children with their mother's life before.

That certainly is a frightening scenario that you suggest may have been the case. Sometimes poverty and overwhelming stress leads to abusive cases such as this one. I would just like to understand what motivates someone to commit such a horrific act.
I read in another story that they were sleeping in the garage.

twelve- what does homosexuality have to do with this story? please tell me. i would really like to hear your shallow minded insight into this one. Oddly enough, the majority of pedofiles and priests who molest children are not homosexuals, they are in fact exactly what you claim to be twelve... a red blooded hetero. Odd isn't it that your insight is constantly squashed by fact. perhaps you could give us some facts about this story that make you believe this is somehow a homosexual problem.

OMG Cheryl. I haven't heard about this case but how sick can people get? Is there ANY kind of treatment nowadays that actually works for these people? It seems to be getting worse (or getting more media coverage.)

He didn't rape the boy. He sexually abused him by punishing him using a foreign object. He is a heterosexual. Quit reading "homosexual" into everything.

You could tell 12pole that pedophiles aren't necessarily homosexuals and that homosexuals and pedophiles are different. The words are spelled differently and sound differently because they have different meanings.

I agree with that too. I have no sympathy for such a person. The act of child molestation often brings forth long term, if not lifetime problems.
