Gets released from jail tomorrow. She wes charged with raping her 13 year old lover and plans to be reunited with him (he's now 21) and their 2 children. What are your thoughts?

As he is 21 now,it doesn't matter what anyone thinks. It will be up to him as to whether they will get together.

what a joke, is my thought. She admits to being bi polar, somethings wrong with her.

The kid she 'raped' I've seen him. My girls know a younger kid that went to Evergreen High School with him and she told them he was a real player with the girls. I believe he and his mother got a chunk of money too from the school dist. for the whole 'teacher raping student' thing.

she's got her own website too! oh boy! its insane!

Actually, I just looked her up, and the article I read says she ISN'T planning on getting together with him. In fact, as a condition of her release she can't contact him at all.

Letourneau getting out of prison
Notorious teacher seduced preteen student

Tuesday, August 3, 2004 Posted: 7:11 PM EDT (2311 GMT)

SEATTLE, Washington (AP) -- The teacher whose notorious seduction of a sixth-grader dominated headlines in the late 1990s is getting out of prison.

Mary Kay Letourneau, 42, is scheduled to be released Wednesday from a women's state prison near Gig Harbor after serving a seven-year sentence for child rape.

State Department of Corrections officials are divulging no details about her release. And Letourneau has not said if she will reunite with Vili Fualaau, now 21, with whom she has two children.

"I'm not allowing myself to think about being with him," Letourneau told Seattle's KOMO-TV. "We had a beautiful relationship, and I value it for what it was."

Letourneau was a 34-year-old elementary school teacher in suburban Des Moines, Washington, and a married mother of four in 1996 when her friendship with the then-12-year-old Fualaau became sexual.

"We had sex in the gym, we had sex in the girl's bathroom and we had sex in her classroom," Fualaau testified in a 2002 civil trial.

When Letourneau was arrested in 1997, she was already pregnant with Fualaau's daughter. A judge sentenced her to six months for second-degree child rape, and ordered her to stay away from Fualaau.

A month after her release, however, Letourneau was caught having sex with Fualaau in her car. She was sent to prison for 71/2 years, and gave birth to Fualaau's second daughter behind bars.

"Nothing could have kept the two of them apart," Seattle attorney Anne Bremner told The Associated Press. Bremner struck up a friendship with Letourneau in 2002, while defending police against a civil lawsuit filed by Fualaau and his mother, alleging the police and school district failed to protect him. A jury rejected their claims.

Letourneau, who sang in the choir and recorded books-on-tape for the blind while in prison, wants to try to build a normal life, Bremner said. "She wants to be a mother, she wants to be a responsible member of society," she said.

Attempts by the AP to contact attorneys for Letourneau and Fualaau were unsuccessful. Fualaau's number is unlisted.

As a condition of her release, Letourneau cannot contact Fualaau.

Fualaau told People magazine recently he would like to reunite with Letourneau but wants to take things slowly. He is unemployed and told the magazine he is working on his GED. His mother is raising their children.

Bremner said Letourneau still feels for Fualaau. "She's always said this love is eternal and endless, and I think she stands by that," Bremner said.

Letourneau's two daughters with Fualaau are now 6 and 7. They visited her in prison about twice a month. Her four older children live in Alaska with her ex-husband and visited a few times a year.

"There's enormous pain" with her four older children, Bremner said.

As a sex offender, Letourneau will have to register with the state and receive court-ordered treatment. Authorities will notify her new neighbors -- although the TV trucks will probably tip them off first. Seven years in prison has done little to dim Letourneau's notoriety.

"People are fascinated by scandal," Bremner said. "Love somehow made her do things that led to complete catastrophe. Then there's the side of watching a train wreck -- you can't look away even if you want to."

Near, I couldn't get your link to work.

Bunni, I've been on the couch (with a migraine - ouch!) and was watching CNN off & on. An inmate from the jail she was in said she's looking forward to being reunited with Fualaau and her children (by him). Can they legally prevent her from seeing this guy now?

She may have changed, but if you click those links on her website, there is one 'dedicated' to Vili.

Another thing I don't get is he is 21 now, what if HE wanted to contact her? He's definitly not a minor, that part of the condition is strange. She had visitation rights in prison with the 2 she had with him

She lived in Normandy Park, kinda ritzy area on the water, its near Des Moines. She taught at North Shorewood elementary when she met Vili.

I know, unemployed, taking it easy, and his mom is raising the kids.... theres a lot there that the news doesn't tell you .....

Kraft, I would think after seven years, he might not be as interested in her as he once was? But maybe that is wrong with the children involved...maybe he feels something else.

Thanks Near! (I hope you had a good vacation! )

Nero, I read that he's had many girlfriends since Mary went to jail but still has a thing for Mary. Not to get too graphic, but I think maybe since she was his first and maybe they had great sex, it could have a huge effect on him and any other relationship he might have. (Good sex is EVERYTHING to guys!)

I saw a news interview recently, he claimed to still love her, and wanted to be with her. I don't understand how she can be banned from contact with him against his wishes. I guess if they really do want to be together they could leave the US. I bet she'll go back to jail again....

One other thought, if the kid, now an adult, doesn't feel like a victim, is he? I really don't have an opinion, just wondering what you all think.

Good question Prof. It seems like the courts decide who's the victim these days, not the actual people involved.

Who's would be hurt if they got together?

Twelve, is that a big deal for a young "boy" - to be with an older woman?

At 12 being with an older woman would certainly seem to be a big deal at the time... are you discounting statutory rape kraft?
It is usual for a woman to be prosecuted for that, this is why this case is unusual....

What I meant Twelve, was when boys become of age (legally), I wouldn't think an older woman would appeal to them.

Depends if they want sex or a relationship... for sex most men will not care... for a relatiionship... most men want a younger woman...
Unless they are some sort of Harold and Maude stage...

I know there are a few older women I am attracted to... but not many.

Well, it appears that the young man wants to get back together with her, and is challenging the ruling forbidding her to have contact with him:

Letourneau's Ex-Lover Wants Contact with Her
Wednesday, August 04, 2004

GIG HARBOR, Wash. — The boy who famously had an affair with grade-school teacher Mary Kay Letourneau (search) when he was 12 is fighting a court order saying she can't contact him as a condition of her prison release.

Letourneau was freed from the Washington Corrections Center for Women (search) before dawn Wednesday after serving seven and a half years behind bars for child rape.

Vili Fualaau (search), now 21, and Letourneau have two children together as a result of their relationship, which began when she was a 34-year-old teacher and he was her sixth-grade pupil. The pair said they were in love. Their children are 5 and 7 years old. They visited her in prison about twice a month.

As a condition of her release, Letourneau, 42, was forbidden from contacting Fualaau. But on Wednesday morning, Fualaau's attorney, N. Scott Stewart, filed a motion for the court to toss out the no-contact order.

The prosecutor's office is reviewing the motion, spokesman Dan Donohoe said, and had not yet decided whether to agree to it or request a hearing before a judge.

A friend of Fualaau's, Noel Soriano, told NBC's "Today" show that Fualaau was "relieved that she's out of prison and currently he can't wait to see her."

Letourneau, who sang in the choir and recorded books-on-tape for the blind while in prison, wants to try to build a normal life, said Seattle attorney Anne Bremner, who struck up a friendship with Letourneau in 2002 and spoke to her recently by phone. "She wants to be a mother, she wants to be a responsible member of society."

As a sex offender, Letourneau will have to register with the state within 24 hours of her prison release and receive court-ordered treatment. Authorities will notify her new neighbors — although the TV trucks will probably tip them off first. More than seven years in prison has done little to dim Letourneau's notoriety.

A small crowd gathered outside the prison gates on Tuesday night — a few families and some rowdy teenage boys flaunting signs that said "I'm 18, Baby" and "Take Me Home" for the TV cameras.

Letourneau was a 34-year-old elementary school teacher in suburban Seattle and a married mother of four in 1996 when her friendship with the then-12-year-old Fualaau mutated into flirtation and then sex.

The illicit relationship was revealed when Letourneau's husband, Steve, found love letters from the boy. Steve Letourneau later moved to Alaska with the couple's four children and was granted a divorce. The children visited a few times a year.

When Letourneau was arrested in 1997, she was already pregnant with Fualaau's daughter. A judge sentenced her to six months in jail for second-degree child rape, and ordered her to stay away from Fualaau.

But the temptation proved too much for her to resist. A month after Letourneau was released, she was caught having sex with Fualaau in her car, a violation of her parole. She was sent to prison for seven and a half years, and gave birth to Fualaau's second daughter behind bars.

"This case is not about a flawed system. This is about an opportunity that you foolishly squandered," King County Superior Court Judge Linda Lau told Letourneau at her sentencing, referring to the lenient terms she had earlier imposed.

Letourneau may now want to tell her own story. A state appeals court ruled in 2000 that she may sell and profit from her story. She has also expressed interest in working for a group that advocates for the rights of mothers in prison.

As for trying to reconnect with Fualaau, Letourneau was mum. "I'm not allowing myself to think about being with him," Letourneau told Seattle's KOMO-TV earlier this week. "We had a beautiful relationship, and I value it for what it was."

Attempts by The Associated Press to reach Letourneau or her lawyers were unsuccessful.

Fualaau told People magazine recently that he'd like to reunite with Letourneau, but wants to take things slowly. He is unemployed and told the magazine he is working on his GED. His mother is raising their children. Fualaau's phone number is unlisted.

"I don't know what my feelings are right now," Fualaau told KING-TV on Tuesday, acknowledging he was "kind of nervous."

"But I know that I do love her," he said.

Well.. I can't believe this is going to happen.. but I am going to have to agree with Twelve on this one...

I think she got off lightly. If the tables were turned and it was a male teacher with a 12 year old girl.. I believe he would spend the rest of his life in prision... seems to me there is a double standard here..
Is it really "cute" or "oh, well a 12 year old with raging hormones.. must have enjoyed this"? What kind of attitude is that? He was a kid.. she was an adult.. she was in control. Personally, I believe she should have spent 20 years in jail. If you all had a 12 year old son that this happened to would you forgive this predator as easily?

At this point in their lives, I don't care what they do.. I feel sorry for the kids, from both her first marriage and the two with him.....

Maggie, don't you think there's a difference? How many times have you heard of women raping men or boys? Now compare that to men. Sending her back to jail isn't going to send a message to all the female rapists out there because there aren't that many.

"... if you ever change your mind about women there logansdad, I would be happy to explain it to ya..."

ROTFLMHO!!!! Oh please explain it anyways Twelve. I'd even put money into your Paypal account to hear this.
