I am fortunate to now live in Portland, Oregon. I left Florida in 1997. I've had a bad feeling about Francis since before Gustan hit land, and my fears are coming true. I have many friends in South Miami, Coconut Grove, Ft. Lauderdale, Davie, Titusville, Anastasia Beach, and my mom lives in Orange Park, while the rest of my immediate family is in Jacksonville, Jacksonville Beach, and Tallahassee, not to mention some family along the southern border of Georgia.
I hope that everyone is prepared and ready. This is a grandaddy of a hurricane. Twice the size of Hurricane Andrew that cleaned house across southern Florida years back, yet is at least as powerful and could increase along its trek. I hate to say it, but we may see this one top 40 billion dollars in damage and cost many lives.
Anyone have a really good website that gives accurate info, along with projected tracks, and up to the minute radar in motion?

My father doesn't need this again. He said that Port Charlotte currently looks like a war zone. He's currently up here in Port Clinton, Ohio. Hopefully, it won't attack the Gulf side, but it doesn't look good and he's worried. Tom has a good link on the EO board if you're interested.

I have a bad feeling about this one too Rusty. It looks pretty intense on radar. I hope everyone gets through this.

I know one ebay seller who lives near Daytona beach, she left for Tampa on wednesday with her sister and pets.
She is expecting to lose her roof and all her ebay stuff in the garage.
Another friend of mine in Fort Lauderdale, she is staying put as her husband is in wheel chair and needs kidney dialysis,if the power goes off,he is in trouble.
She may take him to hospital but if hospital is hit,so much for his treatment!!

I live just west of Fort Lauderdale. Everyone is boarding up their houses and stores. Right now the weather could not be more beautiful- sunny, warm and . breezy. We had a minor feeder band come through an hour ago with wind gusts up to 40 MPH and some rain. It knocked down some trees. We expect to get winds up to 80 MPH here and some heavy rain. It was just reported that 45,000 are already without power.

The best part about Arizona, is that no one in their right mind would go looking for you in that sweltering heat.
I find it amusing how many people here say things like, "I would never live in Florida because of the Hurricanes." My response has always been, "At least you get a good amount of warning before it hits. Earthquakes happen randomly."
I see the Florida State/Miami football game was moved from this coming Monday to Friday. Perfect time for my mom to show up. We can watch the game together. Go Noles!!!

Maybe, but we get a bad earthquake (lots of damage, loss of life) once in a blue moon--maybe every 10-15 years. I gladly take that over living in areas where hurricanes & tornadoes are a yearly thing--several times a year, and when the hurricanes or tornadoes aren't sweeping through, the rivers always seem to be flooding.

Here in Florida we worry more about lightning as Florida gets more than any other state. Tonight Miami is expected to get up to 50-75 MPH winds, Fort Lauderdale75-90 and West Palm Beach 90-100.

Arizona and New Mexico, are you nuts? Think black widow spiders in your closet, Gila Monsters that will bite your ankle with their puss filled poisonous two inch long fangs and not let go till you hack off their heads Rattle snakes as big around as your arm waiting in the bushes when you take your little dog out for a walk..red tailed hawks that will swoop down onto your desert landscaped patio and snatch your kitty cat away to be torn to shreds and fed to their ravenous offspring...pans of water under all the bed legs to keep the scorpions from crawling on your sheets at night...6 inch long centipedes falling from the ceiling and plopping into your scrambled eggs in the morning...Illegal aliens, hordes of dark, scary people sneaking across the border and rummaging in your trash cans....dust storms that blow up out of nowhere and sandblast your car...and the sun, oh god the sun...go out to get the mail without SPF 40 and you may very well die a horrible death from melanoma....
No offense, but we have enough refugees out here, thank you very much.

I think no matter where you live, you worry about something. Here it is tornadoes, severe thunderstorms, snow storms, ice storms and the like. Come January, I will be wishing for warm, sunny Florida! Driving can be very hazardous during the winter months and the wind can be brutal! You just have to adapt. Although, the older I get, the harder it's becomming to adapt to the weather here.

Sounds like you could live in Ohio! Good news, though, in SIX years 2000 more jobs will be added not including those snow shoveling jobs that are created by the good grace of our weather. Now, if the unemployed can just figure out how to survive for SIX more years. Turns out, I live in the poorest large city in the country - 50% of the children live in poverty. But, don't tell them that - most don't feel poor at all. Like the snow we get here, it numbs you after awhile I guess.
