I think you need to see the whole picture of the airline industry. It is not only Delta but other airlines also.
Here is the article about Delta. Which should have posted along with that statement.
Delta CEO Sees 6,000 to 7,000 Job Cuts

ATLANTA (Reuters) - Delta Air Lines Inc. (NYSE-DAL - news) Chief Executive Gerald Grinstein on Wednesday said his transformation plan for the struggling No. 3 U.S. airline would include 6,000 to 7,000 job cuts over the next 18 months and a dehubbing of its Dallas/Fort Worth operation.
Grinstein, speaking in Atlanta, said the airline is targeting more than $5 billion in annual savings by 2006. He said his plan would include growing Delta's low-cost unit, Song, initially by 12 aircraft.
Delta has been racing to cut costs and has said it could be forced to file for bankruptcy if it could not lower expenses and revamp its business.

Don't need to read, I just know recent history.
They cut jobs so executives can look like they're saving money, their salaries go up, they get huge bonuses and the stockholders are happy.
If jobs are cut it's because of bad management but the management gets a big bonus for "cutting costs".

Well crowfarm it's better to read than assume. That's the problem with a lot of people they only read what they want to. It's call selective reading. When you post something it should be backed up by facts.
If you would have read the article they talk about the unions and their contracts. How the union reps made it great for themselves. That's not management. Yes management gets a high salary but who doesn't in management. Most company managers or CEO gets big bucks both Democrat or Republican and that's why they take the jobs.
