An increase in firewall alerts lately? It seems that over the last several weeks I get 4-6 pop ups a session. Or, is someone out to get my eBay info off my computer?

In Christ,
Rick

Genesis 1:1

"I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him: "I'm ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I do not accept His claim to be God." That is one thing we must not say. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic....or else he would be the devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God: or else a madman or something worse. You can shut Him up for a fool, you can spit at Him and kill Him as a demon; or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about His being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to."

Hi CC, I meant to get back to you with this. I am no expert by any means. But could it could be the way you have your firewall configured? When you say pop-ups, do you mean intrusion alerts? Are you using Norton? Have you changed anything lately on your firewall? -Maybe not meaning to? Because sometimes what happens, is normal internet traffic that goes in and out of your computer to access web pages, etc. gets configured to show up as an alert, if using other programs (like if you launch MSword or something) but its really just normal internet traffic. Pops-up of other things is different though, especially if you have some type of pop-up guard.

edited to add; You might want to post this on the EO as there are several computer related threads going on right now (much to the chagrin of some) - and glassgirl seems to be very good with computer virus/trojan related questions.

Firewalls are more trouble than they're worth. After my experiecne with ZoneAlarm, when my computer was shut down for three days, I have avoided using firewalls...other than the one that is supplied with Windows XP.

Notice from Zone Labs Internet Security

This page is to notify you that ZoneAlarm has detected a problem with your installation, and therefore has restricted Internet access from your machine for your protection....Because this condition is similar to a condition where a hacker is trying to disable your security, ZoneAlarm (Plus/Pro) has blocked would-be hackers by locking down your computer from outside Internet attacks.

I have Zone Alarm pro, and I configure it NOT to have the pop ups.

I am now having more trouble, since downloading the XP pro service pack

How long will it take to restore my access?
This will take between 5 and 15 minutes.
You have been taken to this area if you have tried previous steps to restore Internet access and have been unsuccessful. Thank you for your patience.

Two days later....

Removal will require using Safe Mode and editing the registry. If you are not comfortable using these, you should seek out someone more knowledgeable in their use. Please click here to view the instructions necessary to restore Internet access. This will take approximately 15 minutes.

Three days later...

Lol!!!

I run Norton's. I am referring to security alerts. I run virus scans daily, and update it 2-3x a week, so I think I am pretty safe there. As I thought more on it, I realize that it happens most often when I first run Turbo Lister, visit ESPN, or am just "rambling" around on the net.

Thanks for your input, all.
