Heinz Kerry Visits Hurricane Aid Center

Wed Sep 15, 6:05 PM ET

By SAM DOLNICK, Associated Press Writer

NEW YORK - Teresa Heinz Kerry, encouraging volunteers as they busily packed supplies Wednesday for hurricane relief efforts in the Caribbean, said she was concerned the effort was too focused on sending clothes instead of essentials like water and electric generators.

"Clothing is wonderful, but let them go naked for a while, at least the kids," said Heinz Kerry, the wife of Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry (news - web sites). "Water is necessary, and then generators, and then food, and then clothes."

Heinz Kerry stopped by a market in the heart of Brooklyn's Caribbean community, where she spoke French with Haitian vendors and shook hands with volunteers busy packing food, clothes and other relief supplies to be shipped to several Carribean islands hit by Hurricane Ivan. Her husband's campaign donated water, blankets and first aid kits.

"I think it's important we help all the kids we can," Heinz Kerry said.

Ivan swept through the Caribbean last week, killing more than 60 people and leaving tens of thousands homeless.

Dr. Roy A. Hastick Sr., president of the Caribbean American Chamber of Commerce (news - web sites) and coordinator of the market's relief effort, said the visit helped make difficult days a bit brighter.

"It's a major boost for us and the community to show we have someone on a national level concerned with what's happening in the Caribbean region," Hastick Sr. said.

Supporters gathered on the sidewalk shouted "We love you," and "Good luck" as Heinz Kerry made her way to a waiting car.

Sounds like she has her priorities straight. What good are clothes if they die from polluted water? And generators are also of more importance.

Another cheap and easy chance to slam Kerry by quoting his wife out of context. She's blunt, so what. I agree with her. Food and clean water is more important.

Teresa was quoted exactly, nothing was taken out of context. She said it and the fact cannot be refuted.

hmmm... Staged for his political benefit most likely.

The clothes were most likely donated....cash to buy water and electric generators might not have been immediately available.

But with $700 million dollars rather than spending money others had given to his campaign...I wonder how many electric generators they could have afforded to buy with their OWN money. Like....give a little more than lip service to what you're saying is needed.

I think she could have put her money where her mouth is. It would have been more help and would have been a plus to her husbands campaign.

Her husband's campaign donated water, blankets and first aid kits. Seems to me she could have donated something but to make Kerry look good they sent it through his campaign which money comes from donations not from Kerry himself or herself.

Well, bear and linda and libra, HOW MUCH DID YOU GIVE.

You righties are so negative!

I know you guys, especially Linda, just HATE helping people out but to slam someone who does is about as slimey as you can get.

Ha! Linda, another successful, strong, intelligent, caring, generous woman like Theresa who makes you gag! Yup, SHE gives of her time and money and you just burble hate and jealousy.

Gagging Linda???

Her assessment sounded practical and sensible and I see it met with approval by people who are THERE...

No matter what Teresa does she will be criticized by some, even if she does good.

I think most of this criticism is from those who are jealous or feel threatened by Teresa's wealth, her intelligence and the fact that she is a confident woman Or else they are too old to realize that it's now 2004 and women can think for themselves and more or less do and say as they wish.

I guess that would be like Bush going to Florida and handing a bag of ice to a woman in an SUV. He said, "where would you like this, in the back?"

LOL

Look at the lefties get so upset. Why? Because they cannot defend her lack of putting her/their money where their mouths are. She's worth billions some have said and can't purchase a few hundred generators to really help the people there out? No...they just show up to show their concern in an election year....just put in an appearance. What a joke.

Then you all ask, "What have you given, Linda?" LOL If I had $700 million dollars the people there would have received what they needed....not just me and my husband showing up 'to make them happy'.

LOL!! You lefties are too funny.

Now that's a huge nonsensical leap, isn't it? Teresa is not the President and hasn't invaded the wrong country and killed many innocent people plus 1026 American soldiers and severely injured 7026+ American troops.

But HEY! Keep it up, it's amusing to see how some people react to her when they get so jealous and feel so threatened by her. .

Crowfarm it isn't any of your business what we donated to the Americans in this time of need. I donated nothing to the Caribbean people. US citizens need help also. Did she help them? I am sure there is no water available to the people of the hurricanes in the US.

She is the one who opened her mouth, and she didn't donate anything they took it from donations that people sent to the Kerry campaign. Get it? We give silently. I am not out there begging for people to donate water. I don't brag about what we give in donations or relief funds as it is my business and no one else's.

I am not jealous of her money as she doesn't do much with it. She probably gives the same % as everyone else does she just has more so it looks likes she donates a lot. Now look up Tides Foundation and read where she does donate money to.

I have never heard Linda, Bear or eauctionguy say they were jealous about her money. Money is the root of all evil.

I don't give a rats behind how many languages she speaks but when and if she speaks and whatever language she uses she should speak like a lady. What does speaking 5 languages get her but when she opens her mouth trouble almost always come out of it.

Now show me where she donated some of their personal money and then maybe this thread wouldn't have started. Someone needs to think before they speak.

Linda says, "If I had $700 million dollars the people there would have received what they needed....not just me and my husband showing up 'to make them happy'. "

First: Linda, you showing up anywhere wouldn't make anyone happy.

Second: Before YOU gave anyone a dollar they'd have to crawl on the ground and beg. From your previous posts you have shown and said you don't believe in "handouts". You don't believe in helping the less fortunate because they're just lazy.

Third: You say,"they just show up to show their concern in an election year....just put in an appearance. What a joke. "

No, doofuss, Kerry gives all the time. Her generousity is fact. NOT just during an election campaign. So got ya on that one.

Gee, linda, not quite so much support in this thread ...is there?

The true linda is showing.

Ok Now it's time to send in Twelve so you can get down and dirty.

Perhaps Teresa did donate some of her own money. Not everyone goes around bragging about how much they donate to different causes. If she admitted she's given some of her own money some of you would be here whining about that too! Sheesh!

bunni - I'm not seeing the double standard you're referring to. Mind letting me in on it?

The kerry's gave nothing from their own pockets. Unless you know differently this article said they gave from their campaign donations.

So??? where's the double standard here?

Again, I ask that any words crowfarm accredits to things I have said...be taken for what they are....LIES!!!

Seems she just can't speak for herself...likes to distort and twist what I've said in the past that has absolutely NOTHING to do with giving in time of need.

But...that's because she's been proven a liar...and in some sick way she gets her 'jollies' by lying about things I've said.

sick....very sick.

LOL....that crystal ball seems to be malfunction there, kiara. We're not talking about IF's we're talking about what the article mentioned. And it doesn't mention they gave ANYTHING out of their own pockets.

So very funny to watch the lefties defend a couple with that much money NOT giving out of their own finances.....while continuing to scream that those 'darn RICH republican's what to keep their own money, themselves.' What a good laugh.

yes, where is the double standard. Please explain.

"What a typical tacky and ignorant spin on Thresa's gift to the victim's of the hurricane" Show me where it is Teresa's gift? She stated from the Kerry Campaign. Re-read the article. Evidently you read something in that article that I didn't read.

"Perhaps Teresa did donate some of her own money. Not everyone goes around bragging about how much they donate to different causes. If she admitted she's given some of her own money some of you would be here whining about that too! Sheesh!"

She brags about a lot of things and she would have said she did it, but and if she donated her own money I for one would have praised her.

I will repeat this.

Not everyone goes around bragging about how much they donate to different causes.

So........ DUH....... it wouldn't be mentioned in the article.

But it's amusing to watch the reaction from some of you when Teresa does good.

Poor linda....really getting nit picky now aren't you.....got slammed dunked to the ground in this post so you're asking reallllly meaningful questions like "what's the double standard" which really has nothing to do with the OP.

No linda, I'm not lying about your attitude to the poor and less fortunate and you saying I am does not make it true.

This thread proves it....instead of applauding someone who actually gives of her time and money (YES, she gives her own money NOT just campaign funds) to help others YOU, LINDA , have nothing but negativity!

AND IT IS A FACT:
You said in one of your posts that women like her make you want to gag.

Now you can lie and say you didn't say it because I'm not going to look for it nor any of your other threads where you say over and over you don't believe in helping others.
I just don't think you're worth the trouble.

But unlike you, there's real people in my life so ...more later.....

When Teresa does good.. LOL

Oh yea...all those generators she purchased that SHE said were much more important than having clothes to wear...which she didn't donate either...they could just go around naked for all she cares.

Typical dem position....spend other peoples money to make yourself look good and for the benefit of your husbands election which is in the toilet right now.
