I just saw the other thread -- I lived in Tippecanoe County until last year, now I live in Clinton county, I have gone waaaay downhill.

But to the funny names -- my parents live in a rural area in Texas. When they had to have street names for 911, the county let the folks on the roads decide some of the names.

There were 3 houses on my parents road, and my parents' neighbors chose "Good Ole Boy Road." That still cracks me up.

I used to live in a Northern California mountain town called Paradise. The residents were allowed to name the more rural residential streets. One was "Ididitmy Way" and another was "Goa Way" (these were keep-to-themselves bunch of folks).

Born and raised in the cultural abyss of SoCal -- and it shows!

borgt,

Was that Sanitorium road in a town in WI?
I live about five blocks from there if it is.

How about this one in San Diego my favorite,

Curdsen Way.

The rev is lurking if needed.

We have a "Beers Rd." here. People kept steeling the sign so the county had to put it high up on a phone pole.

Is that the Sanitorium Dr. near Heesakker Park in you know what town? I live in the next town over (the one with the permanent papermill smell. If so, small world!

Ah yes, Washington place names. We also have a town named Concrete.

There are two towns near the Ohio-Pennsylvania border called Moon and Beaver, and the directional sign you see from the highway says "Moon Beaver."

Oh I could give you some street names that are mouthfuls! We had a blast trying to figure out how to pronounce everything when we first moved out here.
To get to my kids' school, you take Ho'opiliakau (my street) to Kenolio to Kaonoulu to Pi'ilani to KeAli'i Alanui... no prob!

My hometown is Nutley, NJ. Still trying to live that one down.

Out here in San Diego County, we have lots of great street names, especially in some of the outlying county areas. My favorite is Costalota Lane, followed closely by Cerveza (Spanish for Beer) Court. Obviously lots of Spanish influence.

That's Flunky Gerbiltush to you!

In deep East Texas, if you go down this little road, you first come to Climax, followed shortly by Paradise.

Of course if you're coming south on that road, Paradise comes first!

I had to laugh last Dec. when I found out the address of the ranch we were moving too. My husband is a huge Cornhusker fan and we are working for a rancher who used to play for them. His brother lived in this house and was a well known player. So now we live in a red and white house with red and white flowers and a red kitchen on ....Husker Lane. My hubby's in heaven!

A few years ago my rural address was HC57. I was trying to change my address with the school loan person who couldn't get it right. So I said "HC as in horse cow" Next statement I got was addressed Horse Cow 57!

edited because I forgot to mention we live near Hooker County!

I am Terri on Terry Road in Terry.

I get a lot of e-mails from my buyers mentioning it. Many ask me the "story" only there isn't one. I like it when I sell something to someone named Terri or Terry or Teri and once actually sold something to someone named Terry Terry.

My favorite replies say,
"Hi, my address is:
John Johns
John Road
John, California 00000.
NO..really it's...."

Three of my favorite town names in Tennessee:

Defeated, Tennessee
Difficult, Tennessee
Stinking Creek, Tennessee

Defeated and Difficult are neighboring towns, and in a twist of potential future irony, they are both close to Carthage...the home town of Al Gore.
