The latest tape from bin Laden makes one pause to think about the message he is trying to send. I despise this man, make no mistake. He is the epitome of evil and of what can happen when someone warps religion to justify their need for power. He deserves to be found and punished for his deeds. However, there is some truth in it when he says we cannot rely on Bush or Kerry for our safety. We must reply on ourselves. Where will our great leaders and their band of merry men be should this country be attacked? Will they be above ground fighting off the evil attackers along side the rest of us or will they be safely tucked underground in protective bunkers? I've often wondered the logic of that. Should this country be attacked, should (God forbid) there ever be a nuclear or chemical attack, what good will come of being the only known survivors? Is it to procreate and replenish this country? What makes our leaders more deserving of special safety considerations than any other person living in this country?
President Bush often says we live in dangerous times. Truth be told, we've always lived in dangerous times. Since the first man walked the Earth, there has existed a sick need for power. Where ever there exists a need for power, there exists imminent danger. History is full of dangerous men and women and the destruction they have caused. We don't overcome this by living our lives in fear. We overcome this by banding together as a world community not isolating ourselves.
In these dangerous times made even more dangerous by the development of super weapons and chemical agents, we need to take special efforts to understand our differences. We need to accept that each person living in the world community has been guaranteed a place on Earth by powers greater than any one man or any one country.
It is the need for power that kills. Not weapons.
No matter what happens on November 2nd, we need to put aside our differences and come together as a nation once again. A nation divided is a nation that will truly fall and a world divided is a world that will most certainly self-destruct.

Another wonderful, heart-felt post Cheryl.
You know, only 4 years ago, the U.S. was "it". The most well-respected, generous country on the planet. If Bush's Presidency didn't ruin that, what did?
What's really sad is that my brother and I are not on speaking terms due to this election. He's right, I'm left. For months I begged him not to email me propaganda from the right and he ignored that request. The last one I received, got him a nasty reply from me because, frankly, I'd had enough. Who knows when we'll be speaking again.
I'm sure it's that way all over the country.

Your brother's a REPUBLICAN??? OMG! Cut off all ties with him as soon as possible. Call the CDC. Get into your basement and stay there or you might be next since you're kin.
Seriously, the one thing you both have in common is your convictions. No matter who tries to sway you, you both stand firm. That's a pretty good attribute, imo.

LOL, classicrock! Thanks for the laugh. I saw my brother tonight at my mother's house and although he promised not to talk politics he got a jab in. I did not reciprocate. At least I held up to my end of the bargain.

Cheryl you say,"No matter what happens on November 2nd, we need to put aside our differences and come together as a nation once again"
The problem is if bush gets appointed again.
HE divided the nation, it divided under his "leadership".
I see nothing changing (except to get worse) if he's appointed again. I will still fight to right the wrongs Republicans have done. The more deeply I get involved in politics the more I see Republicans as really nasty, evil, people, greedy, self-centered, violent, selfish, uncaring, and mostly ill-informed. These are the people who are a danger to our freedoms, liberty, and our right to pursue happiness.
I will never forget or forgive them for what they have done to my country.
The differences are too great to put aside. Evil people become more evil when good people do nothing. Nothing should be put aside.

This country will be more divided if some lying traitor gets in office... If you think that small unit of soldiers refusing a job was funny, wait until you see divisions refuse to be led by kerry... they know he is no leader.
Congress will still be GOP and if by some miracle lying traitor gets in, there will be a huge investigation into his activities with VN while still an officer...
President Bush is the only choice at this moment in time, too bad some people are so blinded by hatred they can't see that.

Cheryl, I see that after 4 years of a "HARD JOB" by bush fighting the wrong war Bin Laden is still alive and well. Nice "HARD JOB" bush, the LIAR just doesn't get it. Some bible thumper bush is when he looks the American people in the eye and LIES to them. bush is a BIG TIME PHONY ABOUT ALMOST EVERYTHING.

After 9/11 Bush said he would hunt down Bin Laden, smoke him out of his caves. Lately Bush has been saying he is not concerned about Bin Laden. Which is it?
I wish he was more concerned about someone that actually committed the most terrible act of terrorism on U.S. soil rather than someone that might have been a threat and did nothing.
How many troops are in Iraq vs Afghanistan? This shows Bush's resolve in capturing Bin Laden. I think Bush is hoping Bin Laden attacks again.
