Can we act any more childish? This country will remain bitterly divided and will move closer toward civil war because Bush is incapable of moving more to the center, which is where he'd have to be to re-unite the country. For this you are cheering? Let me ask you this, are you union or confederate? Under what arm do you carry your bible everyday? Just keep in mind that history repeats itself and a lot of our history has looked mighty ugly.
Cheer if you will, but "what comes around, goes around" is still a pretty viable statement.
America, today you have lost your voice.
My friends in the UK, Germany, Netherlands, France and Australia all have it right when they Emailed me: God help America.

See how long you are going to be able to voice your real opinion without fear of retribution. Watch as your civil liberties are removed one by one. That is the "voice" to which I speak. Your right to be a free thinking citizen. It's lost. And if you think for one moment that there's not a chance for this happening, just watch closely what unfolds over the next few months. This country, if not plunged into civil war, will suffer from demoralization and apathy.

Get over it. You lost. No one fell for your gloom & doom crap. The majority of this country agrees with me. You can cry & moan all you want but the country has been trending this way for 12 years. Maybe it is not the president’s fault that some one is out of a job. Clinton never got the blame. Maybe those union workers just make too much.

kimlittle - They just need to get their disappointment/frustration out for a while. They have a need to vent. It's hard for them to accept that in 2000 this President won, in 2002 the country voted in a Republican House and Senate and now in 2004 this President has been re-elected.
I also have been looking forward to Daschle's removal for years. And I am truly savoring his defeat.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Republicans expanded their hold on Congress in Tuesday's elections and Democrat Tom Daschle became the first Senate leader in a half century to be voted out of office, according to network projections.

If anything, this country will be even more deeply divided now. Can none of you feel the great sadness of that? This morning I found myself feeling how lucky my brother is to no longer be alive. Demoralization and apathy. Yes, that's just how 1/2 of America is going to feel. So glad that makes some of you happy.
Apathy: a complete withdrawal from person or people. There is no real attempt to contact oneself and no attempt to contact others. A very docile and obedient, if sick, state of not-beingness. It is near death or an imitation of death. For example, a person in apathy would say, "What’s the use? All is lost."
. . .a feeling of personal non-interest or unconcern with politics.

Afterall, after months of arguing have we ever seen a glimmer of humanity, kindness, a caring for anyone but themselves, a touch of compassion?
No, never, so as predictable as they are what else did we expect?

Well said Cheryl, Crow, Helen, Logan and the rest of the intelligent base that leads America in a fair and honest way, with integrity and true American values. I applaud you for rising to the occassion and showing your true support for what should be right in America. It is unfortunate that a candidate can run an election based on lies, deception, and greed and still manage to win. It is sad that citizens of this country cannot see it for what it is and be duped by the fear instilled by this administration. It is ironic that one of the greatest issues across America was Moral Values. Across the country we saw citizens that were duped into believing that George W. Bush has Moral Values. The truth of the matter is that this couldn't be further from the truth. George W. Bush has not provided funding to improve education for our children across America, George W. Bush has sentanced our sons and daughters to their death by sending them to Iraq, George W. Bush has taken away American jobs, the very fabric of Family Values and turned this country upside down to empty the pockets of middle class and poor families. Are Moral Values steeped in Cheney's words, "go fu@k yourself"? Are Moral Values based on bigoted attempts to change the constitution of America in order to ban a group of citizens from equal rights? Are Moral Values based on not allowing the general public access to see their President speak in public because they refuse to sign an oath to support him, or wear a t-shirt that reads, "Protect Our Civil Liberties"? Are Moral Values based on a father or mother coming home to tell their family that they lost their jobs because a corporation making record profits caved to their stockholders so that their shares could rise 1 penny in value.
Today, I am ashamed to be an American for those very reasons.
I call upon those who feel the same way, to a REVOLUTION! A Revolution to take back America from these neocon fundamentalists who would rather sell America's values rather than protect the civil liberties of the American People. I call upon those that truly believe that America is a place where all citizens are afforded the right to Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. An America that is for the people, by the people. The REVOLUTION I speak of is a call to action against those who support the fascist regime who has taken America for granted and provided so many social injustices that it sickens me. I ask you to join the fight to stop this madness, and take to the streets to protest the War, to get involved in organizations who protect and enhance our civil liberties, to protect and improve our environment, to protect and preserve American jobs, to protect and fund our education system, and to turn this country in the right direction.

What gets me is all the Republicans saying that big turn out was caused by the "Republicans returning to family values". That is a load of manure. I guess they want to believe the gay marriage issue was the deciding factor across the country.
I think they still don't want to face the real facts that are facing this country...the war in Iraq, the economy, jobs and health care. These were the BIG issues that caused the big voter turn out. These were the BIG issues that all major news networks talked about yesterday.

While I consider myself a middle-of-the-road Democrat, and voted for Kerry, I congratulate Bush for winning the election. The People have spoken, so let us move on and get about the business of making our country strong and safe. I feel there is a lot that the President can do to heal this division, so I think it would be best for us to let go of the bitterness and work together. My 2 cents worth...
As for KIMLITTLE, that was a very mean-spirited and childish originating post. Grow up!
One more thing...let's leave Linda's son out of this. While many do not agree with Linda's beliefs and/or chatting/debating style, the potential loss of a loved one is devastating, and nothing to be joked about. Let us wish him well as he serves our country, instead of using him as a debating tool. That's cheap.

Good post, Rusty!
Koto, ordinarily, I would share your sentiment toward a president that performed fairly well during his previous term and won a fair election. That is not the case with George Bush. He has failed miserably at every single job that he has attempted. We are dealing with a corrupt and conceivably fascist organization that cares nothing about the majority of American citizens and therefore deserves no congratulations. How can you think about the number of people that he is responsible for needlessly killing and wounding for life and congratulate him for winning the chance to do that again for the next four years??? He has made our country less safe and now, for the first time, I am afraid and concerned about the welfare of the world.
I agree koto that we should leave Linda's children out of this. We should not mention anyone's children here whether they may be behind a bunker in Iraq or a desk.

koto- thanks for your warm response. i believe your thoughts and comments are genuine. most of america looks upon our soldiers as the real heroes of this country. I am in somewhat of a quandary when it comes to this ideology however. In the most human sense, I believe our soldiers are simply doing their job, and doing so admirably. However, I also can see the more fundamental issue regarding our military. Our soldiers are being used to attack and kill thousands and thousands of innocent citizens of Iraq. Our own soldiers are victims of a crusade by George W. Bush. A majority of our troops support this president, however, there is also a large and growing minority of our soldiers who can see Iraq as nothing more than a graveyard for their comrades and those Iraqi families who have buried their loved ones there. Respecting those who see these atrocities for what they are, and admiring those who speak out against them, or refuse to follow orders when their ideologies see it as wrong is what we should do. Instead, we have a group of people who think their way is the only way, and that no matter what the atrocity committed by a fellow countrymen, we should support them. This is wrong.
It truly sickens me to see and hear people make statements like, "better in their yard, than in ours." and then chastise those who believe war is not the answer, especially in a place where the majority of the world believes it is wrong. I view human life as something sacred, and for someone to think it is ok to have a war anywhere in this world, or support someone who has this belief makes me realize how inhumane these people really are. I also realize these are the same people who have not learned the basic principle of humanity, which is humility and humbleness. The history of the United States Government and their long list of assassinations and support against other ideologies is a shame. People like Che Gueverra, Bob Marley, Dr. Martin Luther King, and Malcolm X were never a threat to America. They were a threat to the special interests and their ideologies of money, greed, and power. These individuals spoke for the people, and all were the targets of the CIA. What saddens me most is the neocon attempts to call treason against John Kerry for representing his and other Vietnam Veterans views of what was wrong with that war. Keep in mind, John Kerry and those veterans who supported and contributed to those hearings were decorated soldiers who fought for their country. Yet, these same neocons who support their military cannot support an individuals Constitutional Right to speak.
This is just a small tip of the iceburg for what I see that is fundamentally wrong with Republicans and their ideologies. It is unfortunate that John Kerry lost. It is something we all have to live with for at least the next 2 years. During these two years, I hope that liberals will not point fingers at each other, but look to each other to unite and lead us to the next election so that balance can be brought back to politics.

Why do we put soldiers, firemen and policemen on such high pedestals? Why do we look to them as heros? After all these people are "just doing their jobs". Every job has some sort of risks. These jobs just happen to have more risks than others. Just like you and me, these people knew the risks of their job when they submitted their "job application".

Very well said! Revolution is what I fear will happen here. Not the kind you speak of, but one that will cause a great deal of harm to innocent people. The anger is not going to just go away. It's there and its very deeply seated. Not even during the Vietnam War has there been such disdain and hatred for the leaders of this country. I applaud the thousands upon thousands of young people who got out and voted for Kerry. My son, his friends, my daughter and all the college students across this country who choose to walk with their eyes wide open. It was the youth of America that stood up in the 1960's. It will be the youth of America that will stand up now. It's their future and all those who voted for Bush, voted to take it away. Well done. We've had our chance, it's now their's. How selfish to take it away.
Yes, this campaign was rooted in fear. But, the ones who are the most fearful are the ignorant and those so rooted in what they consider high moral values that they can't see beyond the end of their noses. By the results of this election, that accounts for 1/2 of this country. God help America.
Bush won and no, I'm not happy about it, but I'd like to believe my behavior would have been far better than that of kimlittle's had Kerry won. And again, NO, he will never have my support or loyalty. It's that simple. I will go on with my daily life cringing each time I hear his name, see his face or hear his voice just as I did with Nixon. You all thought the democrats were wrong not voting for Nixon once. For that we can say, "told you so". Let's just hope history doesn't repeat itself. So, everyone, just get used to a divided nation. The only bright spot is, after this term he'll never be able to do harm to us again.
