As in, before I leave this earth (but I knew what you were thinking/hoping Twelve), I want to learn how to sky dive. There's an airport close by that teaches sky diving and I've thought about it for years but always procrastinate. Have any of you tried it?

Any of you dying to try something but haven't gotten up the nerve yet?

I've always wanted to take a ride in a F-14 and experience a launch from the deck of an aircraft carrier then return to the carrier and land.

Americans again prove Pres Bush is the best man for the job

"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself." --John Stuart Mill

Nope. I went off the high dive a few times last summer. That's as close to free fall as I ever want to get.

Go for it, it's a total blast. I made about 75 jumps in the skydiving club back when I was in the service. Make sure you get a good instructor and learn how to pack your own parachute. Take it seriously and pay close attention. Your first 5-10 jumps should be static line jumps so you learn how to freefall correctly. Otherwise you could end up tangled up in your canopy which is not a good thing.

See when I suggest something you get upset. I am not taking a jab I was just telling you about jobs. If you can skate then go try out. Remember there is not supposed to be descrimination.

Krafty - I did it a few years ago. Mine was a connected jump (spent the weekend in Vegas and went skydiving on my way home). All I have to say is that it's a good thing I was connected to someone because during the freefall I had no thoughts of the shute at all. I was just digging the fall.

I'd love to go again

Why? Is that what happened when you went?

Fenix, I sure admire your guts. I bet it's a total thrill.

::Fenix, I sure admire your guts. I bet it's a total thrill. ::

Krafty - I had heard for so long from so many that had tried it that it was the most thrilling experience of their life. I figured it was either going to be the same for me or something would go wrong, I would be dead and it would not matter anymore.

I have a basic rule of thumb in my thrill seeking activities. If the liklihood of ending up dead if something goes wrong is higher than the likelyhood of ending up paralized I'll go for it. If it's the other way around.. I don't. i.e. - I'll jump out of a plane but there is no way in hell you are going to get me to bungee jump.

Oh yeah - did I mention that I am actually afraid of heights?

There are two bridges that I am afraid of. The one from Tennessee to Ohio, across the Ohio River into Gallipolis and the Duluth High Bridge. In order to get home when I go I do have to cross the Duluth High Bridge and by the time I get home my clothes are all sweaty. That Bridge on the Ohio river is High and Long. I have only crossed that a couple of times and that is a couple of times to many. I know I will never jump out of a plane. You guys are brave....I guess I like my feet planted on the earth.
